RN-BSN or RN-MSN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi all....Im looking for an RN-BSN or RN-MSN-(leading to FNP) I was wondering if any one can recommend some programs in California.

So far I am applying to: RN-BSN

CSU Eastbay (12 months)

San Jose State (3 semesters)

San Francisco State University (till you finish

I am really only interested in 12-18 months or less and paying public prices for BSN.

RN-MSN:

the only one I can find is CSULA and they are mailing me information on the program.

I would be willing to pay private school cost if I can get a MSN-(FNP) within 3 years.

I can pretty much travel any where in California. Thanks!

I'm interested in this too

Hey,

I also forgot that I might apply to CSU Dominguez Hills because they have an ALL online program 100% online and they have CSU cost. They say on their web site that most finish in two years? Any thoughts?

There has to be some RN's in Cali that are in these programs...

PLEASE REPLY!!!!

Clinicals are not done on-line. You need to figure those hours and costs in to the program.

Do you actually have an RN already, or will be starting that from scratch?

University of Phoenix has a program that offers the FNP, but it requires that you have the RN already.

I am nursing school right now but I am going to be done in May and want to go St8 into my Rn-BSN or RN-MSN program don't want to start in the summer but in the fall so i can study of NCLEX.

Cost really shouldn't be an issue when i start working as an RN but I am not really willing to pay private school cost for my BSN when we have about 15 out of 23 CSU's that have tuition for less then 1500 a semester for up to 21 units. Its just the matter of finding the perfect program for me.

And thats why I am here ....any recommendations to help me figure out where to go?

I am in the RN-MSN program at CSUDH. I think there is now also one at CSUF. Unless things have changed, they require a BA or BS in something. My BA is in psycholgy. It will take me 9 semesters to finish with my MSN with an education emphasis. Two of those semesters are my role option which is basically student teaching. FNP option takes longer because of the required clinical hours--that will be the same everywhere. I am going part-time (6-8 units/semester). It is great to be doing it on-line, but the clinical courses (home health, public health, management and role option) are all in-person. They are 48 hours/semester and it takes a lot of time if you are fitting it in between your work and family.

If you are working--especially as a new grad on night shift--you may want to give yourself a break for a year or so. The brain can only take so much. I am taking 6 units in 6 weeks for summer semester and it is kind of painful. I like the program and you can't beat the price. I encourage you to keep pursuing the cal state or UCLA route--the student loan thread is very scary.

Thanks for the help I emailed CSUDH b/c I could not find any info on their RN-MSN program on their website. So we will see what happens.

As for waiting a year that's what the adviser said at CSUEB. She said starting a program full time and starting as a new grad can be very demanding.

But I really want to have my BSN and/or MSN within 3-4 years. I know I am really young still but I want to reach my educational goals as soon as possible especially since I changed my major 3 years into my BS program and am so close to being finished.

But I really just want to find a program that matches what I am looking for...mostly convenience or classes on 1-2 days a week so I can work at the same time.

Luckily I don't have a family yet so I can pretty much concentrate on my career, education, and girlfriend.
