Returning to school in Ontario... prerequisites?

This is EXACTLY my situation.

I'm a mature student too, looking for advice on getting my pre-requisites. I"ll probably be living in Peterborough. I could do my physiology online, but the rest I would like to do in a class if possible. I'm missing mostly my science courses.

I am aiming for attending U of T, Ryerson or Trent University.

I'm looking at the collaborative BscN program with GBC, Centennial and Ryerson. So, I called to get more info.

They told me they do look at high school transcripts (which I figured) even as mature students. Along with any other transcripts you may possess. The only thing I don't have on my high school and college transcripts is math. University level math. So I'm signing up to take the courses thru ilc.org.

Cool! Did they tell you this information all over the phone? Did you just tell them what was on your transcripts? How did they verify what you needed and didn't need. I'm in Japan right now, so wondering if I can call them, or fax/email them stuff.

You need to know what their cut off averages are for the school you want to attend. For BScN it usually ranges in the 80s. For GBC/Centennial collaborative with Ryerson its mid-80s and for Ryerson its usually high to low 90s. You need your high school diploma and your top 6 including the prerequisites. The school's website will list the prerequisites required. ILC is a great economical way to get your missing prerequisites but it all depends on your learning style. Some people prefer classroom settings where there is structure and deadlines where as ILC depends on your own scheduling and motivation.

One thing I will add is that being a mature student places you at a disadvantage because priority always goes to students who are applying directly from high school thereby mature students tend to have to present higher averages.

Once you have all your prerequisites you can apply on the OUAC website.
