  1. Cool! Did they tell you this information all over the phone? Did you just tell them what was on your transcripts? How did they verify what you needed and didn't need. I'm in Japan right now, so wondering if I can call them, or fax/email them stuff. Oh boy. Gonna have to get my HS transcripts! Fun!
  2. So I've been looking at a few schools, and I came to the Ryerson program, which I've heard great things about. My question is about mature student entry. I graduated from Ryerson in 2004 with a BFA, so technically I have all my pre-requistes (liberal ones, not sciences). However, by the time I apply for nursing school, it will probably be 2014...10 years after my graduation. So does that mean all my liberals won't count? Also, if they do count by some lucky chance, it means I will have a lighter course load, right? This would be great, cause it means i'll be able to work, or spend more time with my son. However, will it reduce my tuition in any way, or shorten the program a bit if I take another course slightly earlier? Any input on going to Ryerson would be great. I'm sort of debating between U of T's 2nd year entry course, and Ryerson's 4 year program. Either way, I'll have pre-requisites to make up. Arg. Thanks! Martine
  3. Thanks Toronto_Nurse, that makes a bit more sense to me. I suppose if I am applying to other 2nd entry programs the criteria might be similar, but I'll look into it. I also figured out today that my CEGEP courses are only good if they were accepted as part of my credits for my previous University degree. Here's one more question for you. If I never took grade 12 biology/chemistry/physics, obviously I should be taking those as part of my Life Science pre-req's, right? Will I have any trouble doing well on them if I haven't taken grade 12 level courses? Should I be doing some grade 12 level courses to bring myself up to speed? I really wish I could speak to an advisor directly, but being out of the country makes it frickin' difficult. Can't wait to get back home and take care of all this stuff in person, but I'm worried that I could be doing some online stuff right now to speed things up. Arg.
  4. Thanks! Yeah, forgot to mention that I am thinking of applying to an Ontario university...likely U of T, Ryerson, York and Trent. So I guess I'm wondering if anything i've done will count as it is all over 10 years old.
  5. Hi, Wow, I am so glad I found this sight, but reading the answers on the board just makes me have more questions! I'm really sorry for all the inquiries, but at the moment I have nowhere else to turn for answers. I finished my high school in Quebec with pretty good marks, but there are 2 problems with this. First of all, Quebec high school only has 5 grades, so we graduate in grade 11...therefore, I don't have grade 12 math, bio, chem, English...nothing. The second problem is that I graduated in 1996...so does that mean that even if I did have them, it wouldn't matter cause my courses would all be expired? I did go to CEGEP for 3 years as well in Montreal. I took some psychologies and sociologies, and even Quantatative methods, and the grades were good. Will these count for anything, since I only graduated in 1999 from there? And finally...i graduated from Ryerson with a B of Fine Arts...and had great history and art marks and humanities too. Since I graduated from there in 2004...same question...do any of these count anymore?? It's basically the same question over and over again...do I have to start from scratch because of where and when I studied?Anyone out there with a similar background? Thanks!
  6. Hi, throwing another question out there. I'm missing a slew of pre-requisites... bio, chem, a&p...possibly a math course too. I'm thinking of doing a couple of these online and a few of them in the classroom. Which ones would be best to do online? I'm thinking a&p, because it is all sort of practical knowledge, where as math and chemistry might require some serious teacher assistance. Anyone have any feedback from their own experiences? Cheers! Martine
  7. Ok, so i'm posting this because I thought I knew where to start, and now that I've researched a bunch of things, I think I'm lost! I'm 33 years old, and I want to apply for a BScN to be an RN or maybe eventually an NP. I've been out of high school since 1996. As it was a Quebec high school I never had grade 12 Math/Bio or Chem. I did 3 years of CEGEP in Montreal in communications...unfortunately no science classes I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ryerson, so I have a bunch of psychologies, humanities, histories, sociology etc. I graduated in 2004. So, now I'm looking at all sorts of university admissions requirements and find them a bit confusing. U of T doesn't seem to ask for grade 12 English or Math, but Trent does, and then some uni's ask specificially for Chem and Bio, but U of T gives you the choice. Here is their admissions page, which I find very informative and precise, unlike Trents: http://bloomberg.nursing.utoronto.ca/admissions-financial-aid/how-to-apply/bachelor-program#content2 If I was in the country, I would immediately seek out some academic advisor to help me, but currently I'm working in Japan, and won't be back until July. I would really like to get a head start as soon as possible, maybe do a class or two online this spring, then get the rest of my prerequisites taken care of in the fall winter. Any advice or insight would really be appreciated. I want to do whatever best increases my chances to getting into a program. Thanks! Martine
  8. This is EXACTLY my situation. I'm a mature student too, looking for advice on getting my pre-requisites. I"ll probably be living in Peterborough. I could do my physiology online, but the rest I would like to do in a class if possible. I'm missing mostly my science courses. I am aiming for attending U of T, Ryerson or Trent University. Lindsay, if you find any information, please post and update. Thanks! Martine
