Retake classes?

I have a few Cs on my transcript. I just talked to a counselor today and she said that even if I retook the classes I got Cs in it wouldn't matter? They would only look at the C.

Does anyone know if this is the case? Or do you think I should just retake the class and hope they take the higher grade?

I'm really not sure what to do...any help would be awesome! Thanks! :)

Was it a nursing adviser or general academic adviser that told you that?

It varies from program to program. Some will only look at your first attempt, and some will look at your current GPA (w/ lower grade dropped). For example, my university looks at your current cumulative GPA. They will replace a lower grade with the better, recent one. BUT for A&P 1/2, micro, and stats, they only care what you got on the first attempt.

Given the variability between each college, just go talk to a nursing adviser and get his/her opinion. They will be able to guide you the best in order to be accepted.

The best thing to do is ask the college you plan to attend. Every college is different as the pp said. Some colleges where I live have what is called academic renewal where you can either retake the class or if you've have a 2.5 GPA or higher and has been I think 1 year since the grade you want to better then they will take it out of the calculated GPA, although it will still show up on your transcript. So the college you transfer to will still see it (but see also the retake) and it is up to them how they grade it.

I agree about contacting the schools you're looking to attend. Each will have different policies for repeats, so get the word from the horse's mouth.
