Resume Help

I am a nursing student and will be graduating in December. I worked in a CCU over the summer as a nurse extern and participated in a good many codes. I'm currently tweaking my resume and I feel like code experience would be good to list since I want to work in a critical care unit when I graduate. Would you list that I have code experience? If so, how would you go about saying it? I'm listing my nursing skills/experience in bullet points.

Thanks for your help!

When you list your extern position, give a very brief description of what that job entailed. You can include a single statement that you participated in resuscitation efforts, performing chest compressions and blah, blah, blah. But I wouldn't make a huge about it as the externship in its entirety is more important to your job chances than a single technical skill such as chest compressions.

The externship will get their attention and hopefully, stimulate them to interview you. The details of that externship belong in your interview. Don't try to put them all in the resume.

Another tactic is to put just the basics on page 1 of the resume itself. But include a statement such as "See attached list of clinical skills and experiences." Then include a separate piece of paper that lists the major clinical skills that you have experience with and/or clinical sites you experienced as a student.

Id use terms like "actively involved in resuscitation". CPR istself is just a mechanical skill and really doesn't say much. However getting across that you did your externship in a high acuity CCU were you were able to apply the knowledge and skill introduced in school will get you farther.
