I need to identify a clinical problem in the workplace that would be under a nurse's control.
Anyone have any idea's of specific problesm in the correctional setting that nurses can fix? I am lean toward medication errors, but have drawn a blank. thx for any ideas

Well just entering my BSN program I thought of a good topic for correctional nurses...Pain control vs drug seeking.... In my experience most inmates who know they can easily get narcs always have 10/10 pain, even when asleep! So how to adequately treat pain w/o feeding an addiction. While really this is more of a physician based problem look at it from the assessment angle.

I agree this would be an excellent research topic for the correctional setting. As mrincc stated, you could approach it from an assessment angle focusing on what type of assessment is required to differentiate real pain with drug seeking activity, emphasizing the importance of sharp assessment skills in the correctional setting.
