repeating a prerequisite

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I need advice reguarding repeating prerequisites . I'm thinking of repeating

A & P part 1 & organic Chemistry... I received a "B" in both classes, but I feel that In order to get into a nursing program ( BSN) I need to have all A's in my science prerequisites.

I already retook A & P part 2, In which I received a "C" the 1st time I took it. The 2nd time I got an "A".

Has anyone ever had to do this and did they get into a BSN program or should I just apply with the "B's"? Thank u!!

I would not repeat those courses. And your transcript will reflect when you took a course over again and I feel like that looks worse.

You seem very driven and passionate about getting into nursing school and this should be reflected on your application. Do you have volunteer experience? Do you have health care work related experience? What about an awesome entrance essay or good scores on the TEAS exam (if your institution offers this).

There are many factors to consider when getting into nursing school and having all A's isn't the driving force.

First you need to take a close look at the admissions requirements and policies of the nursing school(s) you wish to attend. Some look unfavorably on repeated pre reqs. For instance, my school considers you last (regardless of GPA) if you've repeated any pre req within a certain time frame, making the chances of getting into nursing school pretty slim. Some schools do not consider how many times you've retaken a course, but many do, so pay attention to that. Retaking a course could potentially lower your chances of getting in way more than just accepting your Bs.

The best thing to do is to call an advisor at your chosen school of nursing, show said advisor your transcripts, and ask him/her what the best course of action is.

Good luck!
