Could i know if there are any recommendations of remote communities that are suitable for nurses with families. Could i also know what are the other certifications are needed? Hello @caramel79 !

I enjoyed my time working in an Indigenous community as a community health nurse in Northern BC. The community I worked at is great for families. I can direct you to a couple communities if you want to work remotely and in British Columbia. Feel free to send me a direct message.

Best,

For certifications, it varies depending on the community. Even though you might hold an immunization cert. from Australia, when you work in the communities, depending on the province, you'll still need to acquire the provincial cert/skills sign-off. I got my TB/ Imms certified with BC Centre for Disease Control.

Other certs I got included LEAP Core (for palliative care) with Pallium Canada, Motivational Interviewing, ACLS, HIV testing, ICS Core Health for Indigenous cultural safety...etc.

You can look into getting your license in Canada first, then figure out your immigration status. Afterwards, you can contact the First Nations Health Authority for job information. Healthmatch BC website helps nurses find jobs in many areas in BC as well.

Just sent you a PM. Do I need all these certs before working rural or remote?
