Relocating to Savannah

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello All:

I am trying to decide where to work if I make the decision to relocate to Savannah. I am a critical care nurse w/ 8 yrs experience and looking to remain in this role. Can someone tell me the best hospitals/medical centers in the downtown area to work? I want to work and live in downtown Savannah. Thanks for any ideas!

Nick, I am from the Savannah area & currently live just outside of the city limits. The local hospitals are Candler/St. Joseph's Network & Memorial. While Memorial is a teaching hospital & probably the largest out of the 2 organizations, I personally feel the Candler/St. Joe organization is more employee friendly. I did my clinicals at all 3 hospitals & would be glad to answer any specific questions you may have. It also depends on what area of nursing you prefer as to which hospital. Memorial & Candler would both be close than St. Joes if you would like to live downtown. Hope to talk to you soon.

Hi, I'm considering a position at Memorial General University Hospital, is it a bad place to work? I'm strictly a peds nurse, what are the patient ratios? Are the staff friendly? Is it an old hospital? Computer charting? Does pharmacy pre-mix all meds? what kinda patients are commonly found on the pediatric unit?

Peds at Memorial Health University Medical Center is actually better than Candler General Hospital. They have a wonderful unit, great computer system & very friendly staff. I did my peds rotation partly through them & had a great experience. I am pretty sure that Pharm does the mixing on the meds. The hospital has been renovated numerous times & is a very nice facility compared to the others in the area. Please feel free to PM if you need to.
