Relocating to Conroe as a GN

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all!

I was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I currently live in PA and am planning to relocate to the Conroe area in May. I will be a fresh GN and am looking for places to apply. Some of the posts I have read on here look kind of gloomy. I plan to still try to apply to the major Houston hospitals to try to get an internship, however I would like to keep my options open so I am not left without a job. Could you recommend some specific hospitals in the Conroe area that are GN friendly? Also, I have never heard of the HESI. After researching it, it looks like something you guys take in college down there. If I am from PA do I still have to take it? Thank you in advance for your help :)

Oh sweetie! If you are moving to Conroe, you are way too far north to work in Houston.

The commute would be horrendous- probably at least 2 - 2.5 hours each way in heavy traffic. Better look at Conroe - Woodlands area facilities. The job outlook is not bad for new grads, but many facilities prefer bringing you in as part of a formal training program, so they restrict the 'start' dates to the ones that coincide with the programs. Get your application in soon!

What about any hospitals anywhere in between Conroe and Houston? I just know I want to be somewhere near Conroe. Thanks for the input so far.

There is Conroe Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands, and St. Lukes-The Woodlands. There might be more but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. All have new grad programs... Conroe's GN program seemed really good and I would have taken the position they offered me if it wasn't so far from where I am living... But the programs for all hospitals start at specific times (June and January I think) so you'd have to apply and be ready to work for when their programs start. Good luck!
