Hi, I have been an RN for 10 years but for the last 8 years have only worked per diem. I have 4 kids and have been busy with the baby years and I feel like I need a refresher course if there is such a thing. It seems like I have lost some of that valuable knowledge from Nursing school. Does anyone have any suggestions, I live in the Buffalo, NY area. Thanks!:wink2::wink2::wink2:

Check out the community colleges in your area that offer RN programs, many of them usually have refresher programs. As long as you hold a valid license, then you would qualify for them.
You can also try contacting some of the nursing education depts in the hospitals in your area to see if they offer refresher programs as well.
Going to move this to the NY forums since your request is specific to NY.
Best of luck to you.

I am working on my RN right now and am curious how well you like working per diem? I too have little kids and am considering getting a job (hopefully) in school district as a school nurse so I can be home when my kids are home but from what I understand, per diem means you can pretty much work when you want, is that correct?
I would contact BOCES and see if they offer any refresher courses. You could try Erie but there is also Orleans/Niagara.

Call your local nursing schools continuing education department. The only issue is sometimes their classes don't make as they need a quota. I teach with an independent program in Texas. They advertise with www.advancefornurses.com so that is a good place to look. Internet is a good place to look. At any rate we offer courses in class and by correspondence as well as several others do. After coursework you do clinicals. Depending on what state you are in you might try your Board of Nursing. Texas approves the refresher but, will not give out info as they consider that advertising. I know it is frustrating to find but they are out there.
