Refresh/Study for beginning nursing school

Published

Hello, all! I start my first semester of nursing school this September, and was wondering what any current nursing students would recommend reviewing before the start of nursing school. For example, it has been a year since my A&P course, so I'm guessing it would be a good idea to refresh on that. Is there anything else it would be wise to do to better prepare myself?

I appreciate any advice!

Specifically:

+ Cardiopulmonary physiology

+ Renal physiology

+ Autonomic nervous system physiology

Those topics cover the most common, most serious conditions faced by most patients and they are influenced by aberrations in the other systems... it will also help your pharm studies.

Speaking of pharm, download and peruse my pharm cards - especially the first few of each set which provide overview material.

Fluids and electrolytes.

I am starting this fall as well! How do we find your pharm cards??

Your options abound...

1) Google "pharmacology flashcards" and it's #5 on the list (wow, that's pretty cool...)

2) Google "pharmacology flashcards allnurses.com" and it's #1 on the list

3) Use the search tool here on AN

4) Go to the student forum and look at the sticky threads

5) Click this link --> https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/pharmacology-flashcards-595483.html

And please, please, please... if you find them useful, pay it forward by freely sharing your study materials with your classmates.

Absolutely! That is my goal. If anything, I tend to overshare my study materials!!! Thank you so much!!

Thanks so much for the advice and pharm study cards! This will help a lot. :-)

Additionally, my goal (though perhaps it might be too big of one) is to compile my study tools, along with others I find useful, in one place! Blog or something. Along with my experience to get here, how I found my classes, what steps I took to find programs.

Enjoy your time off. You will have plenty to do once you start.

I used to post my study materials to Google documents and then set the permissions to view for all my classmates. I also opened a 4shared.com account and did the same thing.

I considered the blog thing, and even played around with one, but I'm not savvy enough with web stuff to have come up the learning curve quickly enough to not interfere with my studies so I let it be.

Some advocate that approach; I received the same counsel by many on this site back when I was waiting for nursing school to start. Personally, I prefer to prepare as early as possible. Just a matter of preference and style.

I guess starting my LPN program I was optimistic and excited. Now that Im in my bridge I dread the start if every semester because I know all the hard work I will have to put in, all the fun things I will miss, and all the hours of sleep I don't get. I am a dedicated nursing student who makes good grades, but when that break comes I seize the moment and all of it! Good luck to you though and I hope you can avoid the burnout for as long as possible!
