Recorders. HELP!!

Published

Has anyone found a recorder that actually works well. I've already tried two and you can make out a word that has been recorded. I sit in the front of class too!

I would like digital so that I can upload my lectures to my computer, however I will go with the old fashioned kind if I have too.

I have an Olympus digital voice recorder VN-960PC and I love it. It's a really good brand, and you can download your lectures onto your computer at home. It's user friendly, and if you go to http://www.newegg.com you can get it cheaper than you could get it in a store.

This is just my personal opinion though. There may be others that are just as good. Mine cost me $59.99 with 4.99 s/h.

How does this brand do in a lecture hall?

Both of the ones that I have tried were made by Olympus and they both sucked BIG TIME!! Haven't tried the model # above yet, but will try it next if the one that I just bought ( Sony ) doesn't work well. I'll try it out in the morning.

I don't know about the other recorder, but I have the VN 480 PC Olympus model and use it in lecture hall. My teacher doesn't speak very loud and I can hear everything on the recorder great. Also, a bonus with the digital is that you don't have to flip the tape, so if you teacher will permit you can leave the recorder at the desk so you can get everything. The recorder is very light and small, and I love that I can download the attachment to my MP3 player and listen while I workout.

Find out if your instructor can record her lectures onto her computer. That's what my instructor does. She then uploads it to blackboard (we have online access to diagrams, practice tests, etc) and we can listen to it using Windows Media.

I had a teacher that taught a 100 student class in a huge lecture hall. It worked great.

To the above poster. I'm sorry that the Olympus brand didn't work for you. Did you use the digital kind? Just wondering. I've only had mine for about 2 months, and I haven't had any problems yet.

HTH!! :)

Many PDA's have a nice record feature on them.

That is what I really would like to get. I don't know which one to buy though. Any suggestions?

I have a Dell Axim x50V - by far the best deal going. Whatever you do though do not pay the price online. Do a search for coupon codes and you can save a lot of money. Try this one http://www.aximsite.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=20

Do not use an iPod. Regardless of the mic quality, it records at a very low quality level.

The best class recorder I have used is a sony mini disk player. I know musicians that use them to record their bands.

I have a RCA digital recorder, so here's my stupid question of the day how to I upload it to my laptop?
