Hey. I'll be starting nursing school next year. I have to retake my science classes at the community college first. I read on other threads when you start the program having a NCLEX-RN book helps you better comprehend the material. There are so many publishers/options and due to financial situation I can't afford to purchase many. Which publisher helps you guys the best? I'd appreciate it. I posted another thread but I accidentally made it sound like I wanted it for my prerequisites and I don't think I'll get many responses. Thank you

Honestly, I would wait until you get into your program to get their required materials and nothing else. I also did NOT do anything nursing related until I was in nursing school- I know how anxious you probably are to dive in, but I would enjoy your time NOT thinking about nursing stuff while you have it. Also, diving into questions and content now might overwhelm you at best, and will probably not get you very far anyway because so much of nursing education is CONCEPT based, meaning that the material will only be significant to you once you are educated in the larger concepts.
If you absolutely cannot wait to sate your desire to jump into nursing (you masochist, you), check with your program for their current book list (with the understanding that it's subject to change). We also had a free bookshelf at our nursing campus where older students would "donate" their used materials.
Good luck in your education!

If you've already been accepted, you should have or be getting a book list. Good luck!
Thank you.:)

Reading an NCLEX review book before you have any knowledge to review can be counterproductive. First and foremost, see what books you are already being assigned, and see how the classes go for you. If you have a good grasp of the material and seem to be following the pace of the professors....the book might only distract you from what you're SUPPOSED to be focusing on.
If you are doing ok with the concepts but having trouble with how to answer NCLEX-style questions, THEN it might be good to see how the rationales are determined, how to answer those questions. But to do it before you even have any foundation upon which to stand might not only be a waste of time, but confusing as well.
One step at a time....and that's a later step :)
Thanks. I'm a planner and I was just getting ahead of myself. I wanted to figure out what worked best so I can ask for it for Christmas so I can already have it when I start nursing classes but your response makes sense. Thanks :)
