Hi there,
Help appreciated! I am a newly graduated FNP whom had 1 successful interview and a working interview this week. My question revolves around accepting an advanced practice position prior to licensure. Has anyone done this before? My questions are as follows:
1. Can I work/accept a position as an NP prior to licensure and in what capacity? I currently have an active RN license in Colorado.
2. Do I need a specific agreement prior to licensure to work? i.e. an articulated plan, etc.
3. Can I be working toward my 1000 hours of mentorship in order to gain prescriptive authority prior to licensure?
Appreciate any and all advice? I want to be prepared if I am offered a position with documents in hand. I plan to sit for my boards in July and figure with DORA's turn around time I should be licensed by September. I did leave a message with DORA and they have a 2-5 day turn around time for answering questions - hoping to get some feedback sooner. Thank you!

Just from my own street smarts gathered over the years...
1. You can not work as an NP without a license unless your state provides a temporary license, but then that is still having a license. You could work in the capacity of an RN while waiting for NP license. Don't let the lines blur between RN and NP.
2. It looks like you need a mentorship agreement for your first 1000 hours and then you develop the articulated plan when ready to apply for full RX.
3. You can not work towards the 1000 hours if your are not a licensed NP with provisional prescription authority.

1000 hours of mentorship before you can prescribe?? Wow!
1000 hours of mentored prescribing before applying for full prescriptive authority.
