Really need help

Can anyone give me a bit of help, I am having to write a two part assignment, one will has to be an area of interest and a rationale for it, I have to identify what impact my interest has on my chosen area, and then have to look at primary research from that area, and critically analyse it. After that I have to propose a research plan for the area. So any ideas on what area and subject I could look at? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am stuck for ideas.......Thank you. I am quite interested in ICU and HDU but just don't know what angle to take,,,,,,

You tell us that your interests are in ICU and HDU...why? What is the difference between the two...why would you chose one over the other? The answers will help you on the way towards working on this assignment.

Thanks for your reply, you'll have to forgive me because I have only just finished my first year as a student, my experience is limited but what I like about ICU and Hdu is the intensity of the nursing care, I like the fact that nurses work in an autonomous manner yet their responsibility is so great. I also like the fact that as the nurse, families look to you at this time for answers, more so I feel than in so called normal situations.. As a nurse with such responsibility for high complex cases how do you find it within yourself to provide care to all that need it. I hope this sort of makes sense to you.

Hospital (acute care) nurses operate under very little autonomy. Evidenced-based practices and policies/procedures that should mirror those practices are a very big deal in acute care, and are designed to guide how we care for our patients.

Of course there are times when we have to temporarily improvise. But autonomy in acute care...umm, I don't think so. Facilities even try to control how we say certain things by way of scripts.

You'll find a lot of autonomy in home health scenarios and possibly in case management and community/public health.

This has been my experience.;)
