Reading Comprehension

When I took TEAS test on ATI, I scored 63% in the reading comprehension which was a preassessment. My school requires a minimum of 80% in order to be accepted. Anyway, my exam will be in 3 months. I'm a slow reader and I struggle to relate in this section.

I wonder how I did well in math and sciences having a poor reading comprehension skill like this. It causes me to feel inadequate that I can't think or apply logical conclusions in the English reading comprehension.

I need your suggestions. How do I improve?

I took the teas twice, both times scoring around a 66 on reading. I was really down on myself and felt really incompetent. Then i realized, hey i never even studied for the test. I suggest the McGraw hill book Teas 6 edition, read the whole book from front to back and do all the test. Its important to become familiar with what they are going to ask you (expository, inference, theme, topics, learning how to summarizes a section). When you take the practice exams in the book and determine what you are weak in, focus study on those particular parts. Another tip, apply only what you read in a particular section, do not guess or assume anything. Take your time and think before you answer. Read more, the more you read the quicker you will become attaining and assessing information. Its annoying and tedious, especially in this day and age but its so necessarily in any field but DEFINITELY nursing. My third time taking the test i got n 87 on the reading section! 3 months is more than enough time, just apply yourself and be confident. Good luck!
