Re-thinking LTC

I am trying to return to LTC. I have been working private duty care for low wages and it hasn't worked out for me. I have a different kind of stress such as when my patients goes into the hospital and I am not working and thus am not making any money. I also don't know how many days I will be working this month. My medicaid patient may or may not be approved for further nursing care. I have to wait and wonder and hope for the best. I don't think there is ever enough time to get everything done in LTC. It's hurry hurry rush rush all day long. However, I think for me to have a steady paycheck now is the best thing I can do to reduce my kind of stress.

yeah hurry rush all day long to a new grad is rough!! but i also understand what your saying...need a steady pay....

New Grads are not the only ones who have to hurry hurry rush rush all shift. I am an experienced LPN and still I always had to hurry hurry rush rush all shift every single day I worked in LTC. Yes, it's hard too to have to deal with hostile staff. I think that is the hardest part of working in LTC. I also hated it when the visitors and family would get nasty and hateful too.

yes but being a new grad is a little tougher b/c we have to stop and ask questions, and make sure were doing things correctly... i havent been in clinical in over 6 months, so i need help/refreshing etc... if i didnt have ask for help i would feel much better... I guess that my main complaint, I hate being dependent on people especially when their not supportive...

Yes, it is much tougher when you are a new grad. LTC is scary even for an experienced nurse. I can only imagine what it would be like to be a new grad too. My experience has been that people are always annoyed with me when I am new and asking questions. Yes, it is awful to be dependent on people when they are not supportive. Good luck.
