re-entry level RN

Published

I am looking for someone who had graduated abroad and started a career in this state. I have a RN license of Nevada and 16 years of experience in other country as an OR nurse, current BLS, ACLS, IV therapy and EKG certificates, ..... but still I was able to find a position only in a new grad program.

Is it a regular practice in this state?

It is usual to place you at a level where you can excel. I have heard of several foreign grads complain about being forced to 'start at the beginning'.

It's not a question of your 'skills', but of your familiarity w/ Stateside nursing. Lots of times, Stateside 'brand' names of drugs, and local culture are vastly different than in other places. You might have had far more autonomy in a different environment. Or less. And that could be a heck of a learning curve to adapt and adjust.

Don't dwell on it. Once you 'prove' your adaptation to the local environment, there is sufficient staffing pressures in most places to 'graduate' you off of orientation.

It's only a problem if it distresses you SO much that it affects your workplace demeanor. Instead of seeing it as a question of your abilities, you should look at it as a chance to prove them.

Hi, Timothy;

You think foreigh graduates take a different NCLEX to get a license in the USA? No, they have the same exam, and before it, they take a refresher course about 7 months long. So, everybody who passes the ENCLEX should know the same, right?
