Rad Tech ??

Published

My best friend is a radiology tech and absolutely loves her job. She tells me I will hate nursing, all nurses she knows are unhappy, etc. etc. and that I should go into radiology. it seems like there are so many more opportunities for nursing and nursing is much more interesting to me. However, i am being realistic and I know it is very hard to get into the nursing programs. Does anyone know anything about rad. tech. programs, and are there opportunities out there ??? thanks in advance

Here are my thoughts. (1) The RN shortage is only going to get worse, so there will always be lots of jobs available for RNs. (2) It would seem to me that there are more different kinds of RN jobs, in countless areas. In your typical hospital, I would think there would be a lot more open RN positions than rad tech positions. Also, I would worry about what I would do if I got sick of radiology. I think you'd have to be really, really passionate about it for it not to get old after a while. RN seems like a more versatile license. But, I'm just a new RN, so maybe I'm wrong :) I don't hate my job, but it's a lot more stressful than I anticipated. I'm still glad I have the license. I feel confident that there are other jobs out there I could try if I decide my current area (critical care) isn't right for me.

Good luck!
