R.V.'s ?

Hello,

I am requesting the help of my fellow nurses and sepcifically my fellow travel nurses. I am thinking perhaps of purchasing a small R.V. so I can keep my belongings with me as I travel. The problem is I don't know a blessed thing about R.V.'s and do not which way to turn first. So my questions are:

What type are the best?

Which have known mechanical problems?

Price range?

How do I go to the bathroom, get electric, water and hook up to my internet?

Are they safe and secure?

I apologize if these questions seem simplistic but as I have said I really don't know anything about R.V.'s or the lifestyle of living in a R.V.

I have been RVing for 6 years, and have been living in mine full-time for the past two. I can probably answer a lot of questions, but for now, let me recommend 2 good websites for you to browse and begin to get a basic knowledge of the things. One is www.motorhomemagazine.com and another is www.rvingthemidwestconnection.com. These have lots of articles and active forums too. One of the very first decisions you have to make is whether you want a motorhome or a pull-behind trailer of some sort. There are many many varieties of both, and all sizes, prices, and options.

I love RVing. I wouldn't ever travel any other way. I am ALWAYS home; my neighborhood and yard changes from time to time, but that's just great. It is wonderful to always have your own bed, your own kitchen, bathroom, etc; one of the reasons we RV is so we don't have to board the dog. He lives here too.

It's me again. Another good thing to do when shopping for an RV, or even trying to decide if you want one or not, is to go to an RV show. Don't know what part of the country you are in, but this is one of the times of the year when the RV shows are starting up. Check upcoming events in the largest city or cities nearest you. They are usually on weekends, running Thurs-Sun. Don't feel like you have to already know about them to go look. Just start looking at different kinds and models, get a feel for judging fit-and-finish (for weeding out certain manufacturers), what floor plans you like best, etc. When you find a floor plan you like, pretend you're living in it; sit down on the toilet and see if you bump your head or something; step into the shower and move your arms around; lie down on the bed and see how easy it would be to make it up. All kinds of things. I also would recommend buying a good used one, but it's very helpful to look at new ones to get a feel for them.

I have been traveling for almost 2 years and a fulltime RVer for 1 year. We have a 36foot travel trailer that is two bedroom. There are three of us living in this comfortably! A new trailer will cost you from $10K, but a new luxury motorhome could cost you up to $300K... they even have Million Dollar motorhomes!

Check out several RV dealer websites and get an idea of what floor plan you would like. And then you will have more of an idea when you get out there for "reality" shopping.

For internet access... I have access through my cell phone (SprintPCS) and we also have satellite for TV and Internet.
