Quit after 6 months because of pay….

Hey yall!
I have been working day shift in the ICU for 6 months as a new grad nurse. Off orientation for 2 months.
I love my patient population, and I love the people I work with...but I'm making 25$ an hour. While my friends that work in the same hospital system are making 28.50 + 3$ shift diff from 3p-7p and 4$ shift diff for med surg, While also being able to self schedule themselves. Which scheduling is also something that is important to me. I'd like to be able to schedule myself.

While I love my patients and the people I work with. I can't help but thinking how people in the SAME HOSPITAL SYSTEM are making 3.50-10$ more an hour than me.

I'm just not sure what to do. Should I leave my ICU job, and go make more money. Or should I stay.

I have some additional questions before giving full advice.

Your friends that are making more than you, do you all have the same amount of experience or have they been nurses for longer? That changes pay rates. Are they working at the same hospital or just within the same hospital system but at a different location? Location changes pay as well.

Were you hired as a graduate nurse or a licensed nurse? If your pay was as a graduate nurse and you are now licensed, your pay should have gone up with that. I would check with HR or your manager about that if this applies.

As a new nurse, you should stay in your position for at least a year before leaving. Having a year of experience will make it easier to get a different job if you choose to at that time.

Are these people paid more working on a per-diem rate?  How long have they been in the institution?
