Quick question about NET

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone,

I am taking the LPN nursing school entrance exam on Wednesday. I have studied for the past month, and I am being told by friends (over and over again) not to worry about the test. They all say that it is easy, but from what I am seeing on line and in my Kaplan NET study guide, I would hardly classify the science parts as "easy". In fact, the science questions seem pretty detailed. Can any of you offer any insight as to what I can expect for the Science portion of the LPN entrance exam?

Also, I've read somewhere that schools only score you on your reading comp and math results. The Science section is just to "see where you stand" in the Sciences. Is that true?

Congratulations to all of you who have already made it into school! And thanks for any responses. I appreciate it. :nuke:

When I took the NET last year, we only took the math and reading part. I can't remember if the reading passages were science content or not, but there was no science section for us. I thought the reading was challenging, only because you didn't have a lot of time to think things through, and I am a slow reader to begin with.

Good luck!

Thanks so much!

christine,

i have pasted a post for you that someone else on here posted. check this out, because it is just like the net.

i have great news: jackpot!!! net exam

:melody: :roll

great news..having twice taken the net..i am going to try again. this is the best link ever.....

http://www.hfcclab.info/net/reading resources.htm. this is by far the most helpful link on the web for helping with reading comprehension on the net exam. it has tons of practice and really helps. i finally feel like someone is trying to help me "get in and stay in" instead of helping me "get out". has anyone else noticed there seems to be tons of material on the nclex but very little help for the net. i guess that's because there's so many trying to get in. i passed the math with flying colors but this reading is sooooo different. i really think that the eri world study guide is right on the money for help with the math section but is less than helpful for reading. try this site!!!!!!!!!! hang in there everyone!!!we will make it!! study hard!!

look at this post-

did not pass the net (multipage.gif 1 2 3 4 5)

it has some great info in it. this posting was on the same page that your post was on. i have taken the test 2 times (passed both times, but the first time was the wrong version, and my school changed that in december) and while it is basic reading and math, the reading section for my particular school uses an advanced reading test. the first time i took it, it was a science reading test that most people failed. it was a lot harder than the typical thea test! anyway, i think the hardest part is the fact that it is all timed. read thoroughly, but quickly, and you should be fine. let us know how it goes~

Thank you so much Laura. I took the test on Wednesday, and did pretty well. Although, I felt a little discouraged that the format of the test was not at all what I expected. First of all, the math ONLY consisted of word problems (involving percentages). Secondly, there was no reading comprehension section. The test contained vocabulary words (which one does not fit) and some shape relationship questions, but overall, it was not reflective of any of the study guides I researched. The math/reading section was part 1, followed by an ethical question section, a (very challenging) science section, and lastly, the test had situational nursing questions. Very weird. I scored high enough to get an interview though, so I am happy with that.

I am taking the NET for my first choice school sometime in Feb. so I will use this web site as an additional guide. Hopefully this school will be more traditional- at least on the math section. I bombed the word problems. sigh...

Thanks again!

Christine,

Hooray, you passed!!! I am sorry that it wasn't like what we have posted. I had about 10 science questions on my test, but they weren't the parts that the school looked at. I did very well on them, but the school just looked at Reading and Math. I did have several ratio and percentage problems, but I didn't have any word problems. Good luck on your next test. Hopefully it will be more like what we have posted on here~

Laura

i am glad you passed, too!

what a coincidence... this is the cc where i am currently taking my organic chemistry class (i'm a guest there right now)! i just thought that was kind of cool!
