Questions.....

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hi everyone. My husband and I are looking at possibly moving to the Cities in the near future from WI. I grew up in Northern MN so I am excited about moving back.

I am wondering if there is a pay difference for 2 year vs. 4 year RNs ( I have looked on the boards and I am not seeing threads for this). I have heard some places there is but I wasn't sure if it was across the board. I have been working on a Surgical Intermediate Care Unit for the past 4 years with being a charge RN the past 3.

Also where are some good areas to live? We are sort of hoping to live north of Mpls.

Thanks for your help.

Sarah

I'm not real sure about the difference in degrees. But some nice areas north of the cities are Roseville, Maplewood, Arden Hills, Blaine. Are you looking to rent or buy?

Sarah

We are probably going to buy. First we need to sell our house here.

Which hasn't been such a fun thing. The housing market stinks on the selling end.

I knew that Blaine was a nice area. Also Maple Grove (however the prices there are insane).

Thanks for the reply.

In answer to your first question - yes there is a difference, but it seems to be only a couple dollars, and certainly less than a shift differental. (At least the places that I looked...)

In general Anoka county has good accessability to the cities, w/out the Hennepin / Ramsey county tax load. We are very happy in the Anoka-Hennepin school district area, (more for a geographic area - kids attend a charter school) and there are several hospitals w/in easy driving distance. Good-luck w/ your relocation endeavors.

Monticello and Rogers are both nice areas to live....

I am familiar with Monticello and Rogers. My sister and husband live in Albertville. My sister hasn't been too impressed with the hospital in Monticello though.

Does anyone know about the new hospital going in in Maple Grove? It looks like it could be a nice place to work plus it is part of Fairview.

That new hospital will be opening in December 2009, as a partnership between Fairview and North Memorial.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew any nursing homes or of any places where there is cheaper or free CNA clasess?

I know this post is a couple weeks old, but just as a fyi that hospital that is going up will not be union if that matters to you. My sister works at North Memorial and many people were thinking about going to the Maple Grove hospital since many drive from that direction but my decided against it due to non union & I guess there seniority would start over. It would not be a so called "transfer" nice huh? Anyway, that hospital would be an opinion. I think on their website they said they will start interviewing etc in 2009.

Wow that is crazy.

A new nurse on our unit used to work on the ortho floor at North. She said quite a few of her former co workers were looking at moving. She loved it especially the people she worked with. We are so lucky she is working with us now. Awesome RN
