Question's about PD nursing

I have an interview with the hospital this week for a PD position. I just passed my Nclex-pn and this would be my first interview. I have to say this wasn't my intent when I put in my app, I was hoping for a floor position on med/sug. I have read over some of the posts and kind of have a sense what this job intails but I'll find out more this week. Anyhow, I was just wondering what are the most important things to consider when deciding about the job's benifts and expenses. Should I expect milage? If so,what is a good rate? Is the pay lower then floor nursing? The one thing I do know is that it is a per diem positon. I guess it is good since I can pick my own hours and be on call becasue im still in school and plan on gettign my RN but other then that i'm clueless about per diem. Any and all input would be helpfull. Thanks!

You posted your question about a hospital per diem position in the private duty forum. It might get more responses in the general nursing or some other forum. Are you talking about a hospital per diem home health job?

This is a private duty nurse position offered by a local hospital. Well I had my interview and decided I don't want to take the job. Pay wasn't that great and I would have to travel with no mileage reimbursement. I hate to decline a job in this economy but I'll stick it out till I find something better.

Yea, private duty does not pay the best. As a RN, I took close to a 40% pay cut from the hospital. But other non-monetary "pay offs" made it worthwhile for me. A lot of private duty cases can be Medicaid, and there is no mileage reimbursement for those cases. But there is mileage reimbursement for non-medicaid cases. (At least that is how it is in my state. It varies.) Anyways...hope you find something better soon! Shouldn't be too hard....as private duty is on the low end of pay and benefits for nursing jobs!
