Questions about LVN scope of practice!

Hello all! I have a few questions?

1. Can a LVN administer Fat Emulsion?

2. Can a LVn administer heparin through central line with TPN?

3. Can a LVN change a central line dressing?

I have check on the Texas BON but I'm lost.

Thanks in advance.

Thats very inetersting, that you feel lost on the Texas BON--I went there recently and felt totally lost myself! lol I don't have an answer for you--sorry, but I did look around on the site the other day and couldn't figure out which end was up...the way the site looked it made it sound liek it was a case by case thing and it hadn't been updated in some time ( it gave the year, but I don't remember ) I hope somone does know, because I am curious also!

I bet if you were to email the BON you would get an accurate, fairly timely response...I had to do that recently recently and got an answer back from my state BON in less than 24 hours...

fyi....called the bon and was informed that texas has a grey area when it comes to the above duties. i was told it is pretty much up to the facility and the nurse. if the lvn has a iv cert. then it is up to the facility...and the facility will usually have special training for the lvn proving competency.

.

thanks for responding! thats interseting...reading the scope of practive for TX leads me to believe that MANY things are grey areas! lol thank you for posting your response :)
