Questions for Advanced Practice Nurses

Published

Hello,

I am an RN working on finishing my bachelor's degree online. I have an assignment wherein I am required to interview an Advanced Practice Nurse, however, I live in a rural area where I am having trouble locating someone to interview. Would anyone be so kind as to answer the following questions?

What is your current position and what company/agency do you work for?

What type of graduate degree do you possess?

What school did you attend?

What are the advantages of a graduate degree?

Any suggestions about the application process?

Did you have a personal interview?

If so, any thoughts or suggestions?

What words of wisdom do you have for someone who wants to pursue a graduate degree?

Reflecting back on your graduate experience, what would you have done differently?

In your opinion, what is the key to success in graduate school?

I look forward to your response(s). Thanks in advance!

Okay I'll try to help:

What is your current position and what company/agency do you work for?I currently work for a large nephrology practice in the midwest and have worked there 10 years.

What type of graduate degree do you possess? I have an MSN in management and leadership and two post-MSN certificates: one as an adult health CNS and one as a peds CNS.

What school did you attend?

I rec'd my MSN from University of Phoenix and my post-MSN certs from a local college of nursing.

What are the advantages of a graduate degree?

More opportunities

Any suggestions about the application process? As a for-profit school, my non-clinical MSN program was easy to get into. For the post-MSN certs, I worked at the hospital which was affiliated with the college of nursing.

Did you have a personal interview? For school, no, because I worked with several of the instructors. For work - yep several of them.

If so, any thoughts or suggestions?

Go for it!

What words of wisdom do you have for someone who wants to pursue a graduate degree?

Decide what you ultimate goal is BEFORE you start back to school.

Reflecting back on your graduate experience, what would you have done differently? Gone the AGACNP and PACNP route.

In your opinion, what is the key to success in graduate school?Organization and willingness to sacrifice some outside activities.

Moved to student NP forum also

Specializes in GENERAL.

I would say at this stage of the game stay away from the for-profit loan mill schools. They are for-profit, not you.
