question of work

do all states employ triage nurses? where do you go to see if positions are available? any info would be helpful

A Google Search with your state info would probably help with some info.

Along the same line of questioning, I am wondering how many companies allow you to work in another state as a Triage Nurse (then the originating state that is being serviced).

I believe that states participating in the Nursing Compact have a definite, positive impact on this particular issue.

What I wonder about is on-line & e-mail assistance from hospital websites.

I've rec'd e-mails from Canada & Australia...patients asking for information that is best handled on a local basis (which is how I direct them).

I also wonder about serving patients who live across state lines & call various triage &/or nurse-advce centers. i.e., someone in West Memphis, Arkansas or North Mississippi calling a call center in Memphis, TN. Just what are the legalities & liabilities?

The regualtions vary from state to state, I believe. California requires anyone talking to patients in that state to hold a valid Ca. nursing license. I think their may be a couple other states with similiar regulations.

Believe me, triage companies know the legalities and make sure that we are in compliance.

Both companies I worked for triaged for callers from all over the US. It's not uncommon, not at all.
