Question about UAB and Samford?

Specialties CRNA

I was wondering what kind of clinical experience are offered at each of these schools. I was also wondering if most of the clinicals are local. And I wanted to know if you get to do alot of pediatric cases. I am looking to go to CRNA school in 2007 and I am not set on going to school in Alabama, but am looking at schools in the southeast to be closer to my family. I am looking for schools that have most clinicals close by to the school and have a good pediatric rotation.

I am a senior Samford student. Clinicals are in various locations in the greater Birmingham area and other locations within about an hours drive (Anniston, Gadsden, Cullman, Tuscaloosa). Students interested in pediatrics have a 2 month rotation at Children's Hospital. Currently, only 6 of the 17 students are doing a Children's rotation. I am at the Tuscaloosa site and am doing my pediatrics at my facility and others have done the same at other sites.

I am friends with UAB students and they also have various clinical options, there is a Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Huntsville component. And others rotate sites in the B'ham area. I'm sure there are some UAB students who will respond.

Good luck,

I'm a UAB student and would say that you would see/experience almost the whole gamut at either of the two schools.

UAB students get pediatric experience from Children's Hospital in Birmingham or from LeBonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis, TN.

I'm from the Tuscaloosa regional component, so I do my clinicals in Tuscaloosa. As Sprout mentioned, there are many regional components (Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Dothan, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Mobile; that's all that I can think of right now) but they do their clinicals in their repective local

hospital(s).

The minimum requirements are WELL EXCEEDED as far as what experiences you must have...and I'm sure this is the case for Samford as well.

I hope this has helped you...

Good Luck,

sprout and gump thank you for your input. I really appreciate it. I have a background in both adult and peds and I really enjoy peds and would like to go to a school that has a good peds rotation. Thanks again.
