When applying for a program, do most schools want 1 year of exp in ICU/Critical Care at the time of applying, or entrance into the program?? I know some schools will vary, but overall what do you think??

Good luck!
Oh, I know I have to have a year of exp. at least in ICU...I was just wondering if it had to be in at the time of applying, or when you were to start the program???

Most schools only require you to have a year of experience by the start of the program......not at the time of the interview. Best of luck to you!!!

Go to the AANA website and look up your school under "accredited programs". It all depends where you apply. I've done a lot of research into different programs, and I noticed that some required 1 year by the time of application, some require 1 year by the time the program begins, and yet some require 2 years experience. It all depends on where you want to go. Your best bet is to go directly to the source.

I was curious about this, too. I found that it varies from program to program. Some of them don't say on their website and you have to e-mail or call them to find out for sure.
I have a similar question, too:
The schools I've looked at say "1year full time in the ICU"
The hospital that I work at considers 36 hours/week (3 12 hour shifts/week)part time. Does anyone think that this will be a problem for me?

That hospital is just using a really sleazy way to cut you out of benefits and whatever else. That's rediculous. I would imagine that wouldn't hurt you, just tell them how many hours a week your hospital considers part time and they will prolly have the same reaction. :uhoh21:
