What do you call your maximum security area? Do you run sick line there or is that something only the PA's or physicians do?

We run nursing sick call by ourselves with an officer (or two, or three) in the seg unit. They have the inmate come to the sick-call room (which looks like an oversized closet). He is in shackles attached to the concrete floor. I do a complete assessment and make my decisions from there. We have an EKG machine in there so we can even do EKGs if the situation warrants it.
If a physician/NP is warranted, they will come over to the seg unit. It is usually something the nurse can treat.

It is different in different facilities but basically what Firene said. Nurses do sick call in the seg units.

Routine sick call is conducted in the segregation unit by the nurses. If there is something that requires a physician's attention, the inmate will be scheduled for an appointment with the physician at a time when there are no inmates from other units scheduled. Any inmates waiting in the infirmary clinic must be from the same custody level.

I am a 33 year nurse who had gone back for her RN. This site has been suggested by our instructor. I am use to working with officers from an ER position in a bad area of town. Do you find the security the jail offers sufficient?
