Hi..I have never worked in an OR but I have a question regarding ENdoscopies.. Has anyone ever heard of the nurse being the person to actually advance the scope and to operate it while the doctor is the one working the air, camera, etc. I thought it was the doctor who actually performed the endoscopy. I think this is against the nurse practice act unless there is actually some sort of special training and the nurse is certified in this type of work...
even then it seems strange to me..
Just wondering because one fo the docs where I work is looking for someone to work with him but the nurse is to do the scope while he watches the screen and messes with the buttons.. This is how they perform in the other facility that he staffs. THanks for the info..

I have helped "steady" the scope but the surgeon always advanced it.

I've observed where the nurse did advance and adjust camera. Mostly the nurse adjusted and the doc advanced.
thanks for your input!
