question about per diem

Hi,

I am a new grad. I recently interviewed at a LTC and today they called and offered me perdiem work every sat. I was under the impression that with perdiem work you don't have a set schedule. Do you think that i heard incorrectly and its as needed? I am supposed to meet with them this week and i am not sure....any info appreciated. Thanks!

Per diem is more about not having benefits and working less than full time hours than whether or not you have a set schedule. I know a few people who have that per diem designation and have a set schedule. With most hospitals they reserve the term part time as someone who works less than full time but has benefits, unlike a per diem who does not get them. Sometimes per diems will make more per hour because of this.
