Hi everyone,
I would like to know some information about OU's RN-BSN program. I was accepted to OSU-OKC's nursing program and will be starting this August, which I am very thrilled about:specs:. But I still feel inadequate not having a BSN upon finishing the program at OSUOKC in May 2010. And I don't want to waste anytime to continue and get my BSN. Is it wise to go straight into OU's RN-BSN program directly after graduating from OSU-OKC, or is it better to work a little while and then return? I am thinking that I could have my BSN by May 2011, if I start OU's rn-bsn the following August in 2010. Alternatively, I have been thinking about doing an ASN-MSN program, bypassing the BSN because I ultimately want to do graduate studies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get the ball rolling in nursing school.

Hey you! I knew you would make it in! Well congrats on getting accepted. I think pursuing your BSN or MSN would depend on your situation. Do you have other obligations like family, kids, etc? For me, I'd have to do it gradually, RN-BSN then BSN-MSN because I have a family which would not allow me to only FOCUS on school. If you dont have obligations such as these, I'd say go straight for the MSN if you really know thats what you want. It'll probably take about 4 years, so you can still work while in school which would be great I would think. About the RN-BSN, I spoke to Margaret Robinson from OU a while back (I think she's the director of the program). She says that the RN-BSN program pretty much accepts applicants who have a 3.0 GPA and good academic history. You'd apply Jan 2010 for the August 2010 start. I was thinking about applying to this school as well, but they're asking me for a stats class and another culture class. So, I decided to try to get into OKCU's Kramer School of Nursing who accepts ALL applicants who have a GPA of 2.5 in NS, plus, they're not asking for any additional classes and the timeframe would be the same. If you're still looking for more info, Margaret is very helpful and she'll give you a early eval on your course work if you can give her copies of your transcripts. Hope this helps!
Hey,Congrats on your acceptance to the 1+1 program as well, did you change your user name? I have my heart set on OU for my BSN, so hopefully, I can pull the B average or above. I have had stats, not sure what they'd take for culture credit, so I will contact Margaret to see if I have anything OU would take for credit. Maybe ASN-MSN would be better since I don't have any children yet but I do plan to work the whole time because I have living expenses and really don't want to take out any more loans:uhoh3:. I went to Kramer for one semester, didn't work for me, so hopefully, it's the best option for you. THey are more flexible with their course requirements. I don't think they require religion courses for the RN-BSN. I think I would like to go in stages, RN-BSN, then BSN-MSN. I would like a break from school at some point:chuckle and gain experience to apply to CRNA school. I am looking at Baylor's CRNA program and they require a BSN to apply, so maybe a MSN isn't necessary to apply. So many choices..LoL. Thanks for the response.

i just graduated from OU-Tulsa's traditional bsn program. the culture class that i took was offered at osu-Tulsa, it was called food and the environment or something like that. the class consisted of studying different cultures and their environment, the biggest assignment that we had in this class was researching a country and presenting a powerpoint about the country's culture, values, believes and food. we also had to make a dish that represented the county. this class is easy.
Ambitiouz,
A little advice from a young mother/wife who is going to school FT...
FINISH SCHOOL FIRST!!!
Do everything you can now bc its going to be very challenging to go back to school with a family. Plus, you dont want to have to take time away from the family to go back to school ... which is what I am doing now. Whatever you choose, good luck... but LETS TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME. Let's get through our ASN first, LOL! Well, I'll be coming in 3rd semester, so we'll get to meet! By the way when do you start? I start on Aug 11, I CANT WAIT!

Yes, you're right! I want to have a child but I don't want to do it in between degrees, then it could take me even longer to finish. LoL, getting our ASN is the definitely the first step. Then go from there. I start on August 18. And I'm so ready too. This first year will fly by. I'll see you coming third semester. By then, I should have the care plan routines down packed. Good thing you'll have your LPN then and be able to work. I hope to find a nurse apprentice position.
FYI: I think you can apply at OU as a Nurse Partner after your 2nd semester of clinicals. Mercy also have a Nurse Asst position for nursing students. They both require 1-2 shifts minimum a month. Might be something you want to look into.
