Question on nclex

With NCLEX you always assume that you are in a perfect facility, with exactly the right equipment/meds at hand and the MD in the room. NCLEX-Land. In this scenario, with the information you provided, I would choose O2 simply because it is what the pt needs NOW. Meds may help, but they take time to work.

Thanks for the clarification... see I am getting confused because I am thinking like " what would a book-answer" look for, and they would say you need the dr order first to administer oxygen, but then again you cant leave your patient struggling to breathe while you run and call him, they could die! So I am assuming the nclex is just about common sense in a lot of ways and making sure you will be safe in your practice

I took the NCLEX last week and passed. Everything on there is what would happen in the perfect world, not what you see if you are working. There is alot of deligation, what do you do 1st, and priorities. I found the Kaplan book made it alot easier. Kaplan questions are as close to the NCLEX as you can find.

Question... on the nclex.... if you get a question that says something like " a patient is struggling to breathe, what would you do first" etc and one of the answers is like administer oxygen, or administer a medication, do you assume that you already have the MD order to do that, or do you assume that you can't because you would need to get the dr order first?

Thats what I have been studying out of, Kaplan, although I am still wondering about the whole pain issue. According to Kaplan, would pain come with comfort, food, rest, etc or would it not be a "priority" if the question asked otherwise?

Look at the question as far as Maslow in that case. Some of the actual question that were asked like pain, you will be able to use Maslow on them. I did not get 1 question on pain at all. Most of it was med-surg, but nothing on morphine or pain meds or mgmt. Sorry.

I'm going to take the NCLEX in the next couple of months. It just kills me when I read stuff like "they test for perfect world scenerios, not real world" no wonder none of us has a clue when we start our "real job" The NCLEX needs to be revisted and wrote with today's issues in mind. JMHO

About how many questions average do you think there are on the nclex regarding maslow? I'd hate to think I would have to take the test over again due to this fact/confusion... ugh
