Question about getting certified in case management.

Published

I am a new (6 months) RN. To date, I have not been succesful at obtaining a job. I am still working on a pediatric home care case that I started as an LPN. I have been looking for employment, and don't know what I am doing wrong. I've had several interviews and to date, not one call back. I'm getting a little frustrated.

Case management seems to be the hot thing right now, and it interests me. Can someone who is in the field tell me what I need to do to become certified? I've been looking for information for this, too, and Kaplan seems to keep popping up. Is it necessary to spend this much money? Is there another way?

Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

To do case management I think you need some nursing experience first so you know how the system works and what resources are available to patients in your area. Case management is not something you can do without knowing how everything works.

I'm not a certified case manager, (My job title is Case Manager) but I'd imagine you don't have to pay Kaplan an exorbitant amount of money to become certified. I'd find a website that gives out practice tests and go from there.

I am a certified case manager. The most recognized way to obtain your case management certification is through CCMC. You need to have 2 years experience and then you can sit for the certification. Here's the website if you are interested:
