Question for everyone..

Didn't know where to post this so hope this is the right area lol.. Anyway I missed getting into the RN program by .30 points (totally sucks!) My plan was to get into the RN program and next summer while I was on break to either get my tele monitor cert or phlebotomy cert but since I won't be doing to much for the fall why wait. I am just not sure on which one to do. I am currently a CNA working on a med/surg floor in my local hospital and so far I love it. Just looking on things that will help me when I get into the RN program not to mention boost my income a little.. Any thoughts?

I'd continue to work on BSN classes and keep working. The phlebotomy or tele monitor cert would be nice, but I wouldn't want to fork out the $$ for something I'm going to learn while in RN school.

i think that the job you have is perfect...especially for an upcoming nursing student!

as far as the other certs that you want to get, i would def not pay for the phleb cert as you should learn this in school.

i would just keep taking classes and work where you are at and then re-apply.

best of luck!

Thanks for the good advice. It didn't even cross my mind to start getting the extra classes I need for my ba out of the way! I think I am going to do that. Also the hospital I work at offers the tele monitor cert for free so I think I am going to do that too!

If you have the cash floating around I'd do the phleb cert... but don't do it because you want to make money doing it necessarily. Not easy finding a job doing that.

But practice with IV sticks would be very beneficial for the program. Like I said, only if you have the money floating around or something. You could spend a couple hundred bucks on angios and alcohol swabs and stick people at home after watching youtube videos just as easily.
