Question about cover letters

In reference to cover letters, when submitting dozens of applications, is it okay to have a somewhat generic letter that can be easily changed to incorporate the company to which you're applying?

The idea of customized cover letter for every single job is very daunting. What are your thoughts?

    It's fine to make a template and edit it to the position, as long as you actually do adapt it to each application.

    Avoid vague generic compliments and don't tell me you are uniquely qualified for the position...unless you actually are

    Thank you for the reply. I will definitely tailor my cover letters to adapt to the agency, especially because I'm applying for more than one type of position (LTC, Home health, med/surg, psych).

    Yes that's fine as long as you are careful and fully edit it each time. I had a former colleague who forgot to change the name of the hospital she was applying to when she did this and sent an application to Washington saying her goal was to work in Boston. Needless to say, she didn't even get a call back.
