Question about my application/essay

Published

Hello All!

I've been trying to compose my admission essay to send in with my application and I'm a little stuck.

The topic I've chosen (there were five to pick from) is: Evaluate a significant experience in your life and its impact on you. (250-500 words)

Basically, I would like to use my essay to show that my grades in high school and past college attempts were not representative of my potential to succeed in nursing school.

I would like to think my application is strong-my ACT scores were high, I've been employed in healthcare in a patient care position for four years, and I've got two letters of recommedation. I'm simply afraid that I will be judged only on my performance in high school and from previous college attempts.

I'm 24, so there hasn't been a great expanse of time between then and now.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I appreciate it.

Answer:

I've been employed in healthcare in a patient care position for four years

This position has allowed me to gain exposure to nursing .....(expand on theme)

Grades in HS and earlier college are not reflective of the work I am now able to perform (any recent grade?)

I've grown tremendously as an adult (give examples of maturity, any work commendations/awards/levels achieved also Community/volunteer activities)

This should get you started in right direction!

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

while some colleges do take that into consideration........i think you are wise to chose the topic you chose and for what reasons.

if there has been a significant improvement in grades then demostrate that on paper

get excellent references (prepare a list and let the ppl know they may be called to inquire about you).

state why you are so motivated to enter the nursing field and what you have to offer (state qualities).

best wishes to you. :balloons:
