I am graduating in Dec 2005 and we were told to register on the Pearson Vue site and pay for the NCLEX a month prior to graduation. We can not actually register for the test until the school says we passed all courses (I have no idea why we had to pay this early!) and we get a letter from Pearson Vue that says we are eligible to register for the actual exam.
My question is: what are the exam dates? I start a job the second week of Jan. and would like to kinda know what dates I am looking at for the NCLEX-RN. There are no specific dates posted on the Pearson Vue web site for Austin, TX.
How do they work this?
thanks.:)

Pearson-Vue normally operates on a Monday thru Saturday schedule, except for legal holidays. They also do testing for many other professions as well as nurses, so there are only x number of slots available for a given time. You will not see a schedule of any available slots until you have recieved your ATT, as you can not register for them until then.
There is absolutely nothing that can be done to schedule an appt/test date until everyhting has been finalized and your school has submitted your final transcripts to the BON, and you have paid the fee to Pearson-Vue.

so when our class gets its letters, it is first come, first serve? This might mean that even though Austin is a new testing center, there might not be enough room for all of us to take it when we want and either wait or go to San Antonio?

I too have a question on dates as I am graduating at the end of July and have to book a flight for September 16th which is a Saturday very soon.I wanted to take the test as soon as I graduate so I was hoping it didn't interfere with my trip. How often are the NCLEX pn given? I can't find any info on this subject. Thanks, Rosebud1
If the NCLEX-PN is anything like the NCLEX-RN, once you get your Authorization to Test in the mail (you had to have gone to Pearson Vue and registered and paid for your test, and have all of the paperwork, finger prints, etc done and filed with the TX nursing board in order to get an ATT), you can go to the Pearson Vue website and log in (with your logon you created when you paid for your test online) and see what dates are available. Here in Austin for the NCLEX-RN, if you signed in within the first few weeks of graduation after receiving your ATT, you got a spot with only a few weeks wait. I am sure Dallas is even better since our Austin site is new and has limited space.
Bottom line: as long as your paperwork is in order, and you have registerd and paid for your exam with Pearson Vue, once you get your ATT (takes about 2 weeks after your school submits your passing status), you can schedule your test and only wait a short few weeks at the most (this all is provided that the PN testing follows what they do for RN testing)- seems to be about a month total wait at the most- at least it is here in Austin.
Good luck!
Gail
The test is given six days per week in most centers. It is even given in two shists in some centers.
The issue isn't of when the exam is given, but when you will get the ATT. This is not given, even if you have paid for the exam, until your state also notifies Pearson-Vue that you have permission to sit for the exam. That is where your problem is going to be, not sure where you are located, but most have to wait four to six weeks before being able to sit for the exam.
Suggest that you enjoy your trip, then take the exam, or you are just going to feel too pressured.
