Psych Research Question

i work in Psych research, inpatient one month study, medications for mood disorders.

I have church friends who have family members who are appropriate for the study and want to be participants.

I am sure the study would love to have them (more $ for them for each participant.)

I am willing to refer these patients, I just don't know the legalities about having someone you (kinda) know in the study (don't want to be let go d/t conflict of interest.)

Anyone have any knowlege, insight, advice, suggestions?

Stay out of it!

You could easily become the brunt of anything negative and I see family pumping you incessantly for information.

I think that you should contact the person who is in charge of the research ( the principle investigator). The researchers probably have an information sheet that you could provide to the potential participants. Then it is up to the potential participants to contact the researchers if they wish to participate.

Former (non-nursing/medical) researcher here. Consult with the person heading the study, or another supervisor. They should be able to counsel you on the most appropriate action. Like working in a hospital/clinic, you are correct that it is inappropriate to work directly with them as you would have access to their medical records. Sometimes arrangements can be made to accommodate both you and participants.
