Hi. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the PSB test is like. I am applying for the practical nursing program and really nervous about taking this test. I am really good at science but, its the math that really seems to get me. Any suggestions about what to study as far as the math would be great.. Also, what percent do you have to score in order to get into the practical nursing program at Ivy Tech..

I'm not sure if every Ivy Tech campus is the same but at my campus, we had to score in the 25th percentile or above in each category to be considered.
I can't think of anything specific to tell you about the math because there were so many different questions. Umm, make sure you know how to work with fractions, percentages, etc. They're pretty much all word problems, if that helps any.
I truly hate those "symbol" questions, like A is to B as C is to ___? Alot of people had trouble with the spelling but thankfully, spelling was one of my best scores. The judgement part was a little hard. Just remember to rule out the answers you know aren't right and picture yourself in those situations to figure out what you would do.
Good Luck! When are you testing?

HI, I took the PSB two years ago but I don't think that it has changed much. Focus your math on algebra and math basics.
Science was all over the place, like what color does copper change to when it gets wet?-- Green duh.
The other portions are Reading, comprehension, spelling, and general questions that determine whether nursing is a good career choice for you or not.
Really dumb dumb questions like, if you saw a wet towel on the floor, would you-- A- pick it up, B- tell the floor supervisor, C- call maintance or D- ignore it.
Oh and there was one of those sections where the same question is asked many different ways, shows your honesty, etc.
Don't worry it's really not that hard. Where will you be going?, Good luck, hope you get in.

I agree with the pp about everything. I took it less than a year ago and had to score in the top 25th percentile. Not sure what the actual low cut off score was. They differ every year. Just study up on your basic math and basic algebra skills. Remember, don't freak yourself out over it. Just do plenty of review the week before, I'll try to look up some websites that helped me before the test. Just stay calm-it will help keep your mind clear. I remember being surprised at how it wasn't as bad as I thought. Good luck, we'll see you around!

PS-I remember going to the "pre-nursing student" forums on here before my test. There's a ton of useful websites, that's how I brushed up on most of my math, i.e. ratios, percentages, etc. Just surf around if you get the chance.:)

it is my understanding that Ivytech is no longer offering the PSB test for the LPN program they are requiring All nursing students to take the TEAS test..which used to only be for the RN program

That is true. For 07 they are requiring the TEAS test. I took the PBS and am starting in the fall. I will then bridge over to the ASN, but will have to take the TEAS at that point.
