how's the program

Published

Hi everyone , Im starting the LPN program @ Brown Mackie College March 31st. Im wondering if there are any students currently enrolled that can give me some insight on their program . Like all other programs ive heard some good and bad reviews . I personally believe your learning experience is up to your committment to master the information presented . So if you're crappy nurse or you have a negative learning experience you share in the blame . Just want to hear from fellow students with thier views on the program or other students from other programs with helpful advice .:typing

I did not attend Brown Macke--but I do have two friends who were teachers for them and they both left because they had some moral issues with them. FYI they made more an hour teaching for Brown Mackie than they did at any other school and they still left, one of the reasons they had a problem with the school is many of their credits were not transferable to other schools, so if you take your A&P at Brown Macke and then want to transfer to IUPU or Ivy Tech for the LPN to RN program you will need to take your A&P again!!! so basically your having to take the entire 2 year associates degree from scratch vs the typical bridge from LPN to ASN.

Also another thing I would like to add and this is from a totally personal opinion, when I attended clinical the staff nurses would complain about the Brown Mackie students as far as them not being on the floor enough or them stating, my instructor is not here so I cant, and then the instructor could not be found. This was at more than 1 hospital that I heard this from.

I hate to paint a broad brush over Brown Mackie and I am sure it depends on the eagerness of the student to make the best of their clinical exp, I am only stating what I heard with my own ears.

Now if you are just wanting to get your LPN and that is it, Brown Mackie will get that for you, but if some day you desire to pursue your RN then you may want to re-think Brown Mackie. That is just my :twocents:

I really hate to only give negatives here, but I am just stating what I have heard.

I heard similar things to. I am a Grad of everest college , I got surgical Tech diploma from them and i was torn between thier program and BM. I heard equally bad things about thier students and teaching methods as well . A friend of mine went through thier program and said it was great . Im still very undecided Im going to think long and hard before 3/31/2008 . Thankyou for your input .

I went to Brown Mackie with their LPN program. In fact I was one of the first groups to graduate. I will say it was never easy, but I didn't have the 1+ year wait that you have with other local schools. Last I knew our credits do transfer to Bethel, but I may be wrong. No matter where you go it will be a challenge. Clinicals were the best to me. I was able to see and do so much. I spent time in ER, Surgery, L & D, Rehab, Oncology, Med Surg, etc. The instructors could be a challenge, but on more than one occasion I saw Ivy Tech instructors screaming at their students in the middle of the hallway in front of us, patients, and hospital staff. I would have to say that was the most unprofessional thing I saw from a clinical instructor.

I think you will find poor clinical instructors anywhere you go---I went to a private collage and had what I feel was one of the worst instructors ever. Apparently since she got her Lic before HIPAA became a law she felt it didnt apply to her!!!!

My main concern with BM is the credits not transferring, if you decide to become an RN , you have to take almost everything again, so your paying not once but twice, and time wise would be double as well.
