Navy Nurse Candidate Program
Completing a full military physical is one of the major parts of the application process. You will not be declared "fit for service" if you do not meet the weight requirement for your height, and therefore you will not be approved to fill out the rest of the paperwork. I had to lose about 10 pounds before my recruiter would even send me for the physical. If you have a lot to lose, your recruiter may tell you to wait to begin the process.

Nursing in the Navy
I don't think this is quite accurate either. Nurses are not required to do ship time. It's actually not common for nurses to set foot on a ship. There are only a handful of billets for nurses on carriers (like one per ship). Other than that, medical care aboard ships is provided by the corpsmen. It can also be pretty competitive to deploy on the hospital ships, and from what I understand they pull most of their nurses for those deployments from the hospital that the ship is stationed nearest (San Diego for the Mercy and Portsmouth for the Comfort). Nurses definitely deploy, but not often on ships. Hopefully an actual Navy nurse can chime in on this and deployment in general.

Nursing in the Navy
OP, I just submitted my kit for the Nurse Candidate Program, so take everything I say with a grain of salt as I only have experience with the application process. Tbh it sounds like your recruiter isn't giving you a realistic expectation of what it could be like. There is no way to guarantee that you'd be stationed at San Diego, especially not for all of the 4 years. Of course, you put in your preferences for duty stations, but it all depends on needs of the Navy and I don't think it's realistic to expect to stay at your first duty station for that long. How long do you have left in nursing school? Also how old are you? The requirement is you have to be (theoretically) able to complete 20 years of service before you reach age 62, IE if you are over 42 you will need an age waiver, which may or may not be granted based on if you are experienced in a needed specialty. (I only bring up age because you said your daughter is 19 which leads me to think you could be near the age limit) I'm not trying to dissuade you at all, I just don't think your recruiter is shooting straight!

Navy NCP FY 2019
I was notified that my kit is complete its and going through a final review to be submitted as soon as the window opens in July. Ahh!!! Recruiter says the board meets Sept-Oct and we have to wait until November for the final decision.

Navy NCP FY 2019
My GPA is 3.3, Might get up to to 3.4 by the end of this semester but I'm worried about that too. My recruiter said not to worry but I know they like to sugar-coat a lot of things, so I really don't know. I feel good about how my interviews went, so holding on to hope for that! Best of luck

Navy NCP FY 2019
Hi, I'm almost through with the application so I can only give information based on what I have learnedfrom my recruiter and the internet (not my first hand experience) 1. You fill out a "dream sheet" of your preferences of the big 3. Your preferences will be considered but you might not go to your top choice. Although more likely to go to one of the big 3, there is also a possibility of going to a mid-sized hospital (Camp Lejeune or others but idk what they are) 2. Some Navy hospitals have the Clinical Nurse Transition Program where you rotate through different units for a period of time in order to experience different areas and I think you get to do a unit-based project. Since you'll be a freshly graduated nurse, it seems like they do a good job of getting you precepted. 3. Everything is "needs of the Navy" for what you'll ultimately be assigned, but I heard that if you let your leaders know what specialty you are interested in, they can try to work on placing you there. I've heard that many people start on med/surge or L&D. 4. You need academic and professional letters, 3 letters minimum. Personally I have 2 academic (science/nursing, 2 professional (non healthcare), and 2 healthcare (from volunteering at the hospital and CNA)

Cal State San Marcos ABSN Summer 2017
There are two 5-week summer sessions. The first one is June 5th - July 8th, and the classes are online. They are offering the anthropology course (culture and medicine) and philosphy (medical ethics, i think?) The second summer session is July 10th - August 12th, and they are offering the nutrition course. This one says on the student portal that its an in-person class in Temecula, but that is subject to change. If you already took any of these classes, it would definitely change your schedule. For example, I already took nutrition as a prereq, so I will not be physically reporting to the school until fall semester starts on August 28th, but I will be taking the 2 courses online during the first half of summer. I hope this helps! :)

Navy NCP FY 2019
Hey! I went to MEPS on Friday, everything went well (that was quite the experience), just waiting for my lab results to officially clear. I signed the papers to start my background check. My recruiter is going to get my interviews set up within the next few weeks. And I asked my school advisor to sign the degree completion plan, so I'm almost done! I start my first semester of school in June tho. It's been interesting to do all of this stuff when I havent even started school yet. How is it going for you? Do you have to do the whole MEPS ordeal over again even though you're reserves?

I emailed Cindy on Friday to ask if interview notices are still going out, and she said yes.

Have you contacted a recruiter yet?

Csula absn summer 2017
I also received the CSU Mentor application instructions, and have not been invited for an interview (yet, hopefully). I had to email them the syllabus for my cultural anthropology course so that they could verify that it meets the requirement. I'm hoping it clears and I hear back from them soon.

Yes, I have! I contacted her at the end of December. I finished my motivational statement and LORs, just waiting to be scheduled for MEPS and have my 2 interviews.

Csula absn summer 2017
No interview notification for me yet, they had to make sure some of my writing courses fulfilled the critical thinking requirement. Hoping to hear back from them soon. I got accepted to CSUSM and already paid the deposit for them because we only had 2 weeks to accept/deny, but I really want to go to CSULA. I didnt want to deny SM since it wont be until late march/april by the time we find out admissions decisions for csula. so if accepted to LA i'll just lose my deposit to the other school. good luck everyone!

Navy NCP FY 2019
Hello, Is anyone out there applying for the Nurse Candidate Program for FY19? I just started working on my packet last week, after I got my acceptance to an ABSN program. Started this forum for us to commiserate, share stats, and see other people's experiences while applying to the program.

UT AE-MSN 2017
Got my acceptance for the gerontology CNS, though I will be giving up my spot. I'm going for an accelerated BSN in California (my home state) instead. Good luck to all!

Cal State San Marcos ABSN Summer 2017
Yeah! I got a conditional letter of acceptance in my email too! But....when I go to student portal, nothing changed. when I go to the To Do List, it now says that I have to submit my TEAS (which I did a long time ago...), that was not there before! So now Im worried that it's a mistake! I need to call the office!

Kendleh, I hope you get in this time around after being deferred! That sucks that they don't send rejection notices. I check the student portal every day, hoping to see the SIR. Now when I don't see anything there, I won't know if it's because I'm rejected or if they still havent updated it for admissions yet. If we were to be accepted (hypothetically), do you know how long we have to confirm that we are going to attend? Just asking because I also applied to Cal State LA, and their interviews take place through March and final notices go out in April, which seems super late since the programs starts June 5th. So I was hoping that I'd have time to see if I got into both before having to decide between the two. Edit: Also, since you were waitlisted for Spring, did you have to reapply for summer? or did they already have your application saved? Did you have to submit any additional paperwork? Just wondering for myself and others who might find themselves in that situation soon. Thanks for your info!

Cal State San Marcos ABSN Summer 2017
Neat! I went to UCSD for undergrad and lived in the area for 6 years, so I love SD and have always wanted to move back!! When I attended the info session for CSUSM, I'm pretty sure they said that for the Temecula cohorts the clinical would be around Riverside/San Bernadino county :/ not positive if I'm remembering that correctly, so we can hope! They also mentioned how it's possible to defer your enrollment to attend the San Marcos location, provided that there is space in the program. While that is very tempting if I were to be accepted, I'm not too keen on waiting another 2-3 semesters to start :/

Thanks for your response! I'm planning on talking to a recruiter soon, but I heard that they don't want to talk to you until you have at least a letter of admission. I'm still a month or two away from finding out my acceptances.

Cal State San Marcos ABSN Summer 2017
I'm a little bummed that I didn't apply for the Spring cohort because I don't want to go to Temecula. When I was applying I didn't understand that they accept 3 cohorts per year and only one cohort is actually in San Marcos. My aunt lives in Vista, about 10 minutes from the San Marcos campus, so it was going to be really convenient for me to stay with her. Temecula would be a 45 minute drive from there. Not too bad, I guess, but not as convenient. I currently live in Los Angeles, so either way I will have to move. When all is said and done, I will be happy to just to get in and get started, though! What other schools is everyone applying to? I just submitted my application to Cal State LA's ABSN, and also applied to USD, UCLA, and University of Texas (all 3 entry level master's programs).
