Getting cold feet
Hello everyone! I've been accepted to attend nursing school this fall. I'm transferring from a community college and am now spending most of this last summer vacation scrambling to get the requirements done (vaccinations, paperwork). And now I've been facing a bit of an issue- I've started to have second thoughts. I'm going to have to spend a chunk of my parent's money that they don't have in order to get the school's health insurance because I don't have any (it's 2k+ & a $500 initial payment). It made me really stop and think that I have to take this seriously (not like I wasn't already!) because now I've started to use my parent's money and I don't want to waste it. Then I started to question myself if this might be what I really wanted to do. That was when I realized my community college classes were probably easier than this university's classes, so I questioned if I was even ready for the classes. Then something horrible and unexpected suddenly happened, my grandma passed away. I was never really close to her but she'd helped raise me and lived with me for my entire life. I broke down bawling in the ER with my sister and since then I've felt quite empty and depressed. My orientation was right after this happened but I opted to go anyway so I would not miss any information but I soon realized it had been quite useless for me to go because my mind wasn't all there at all. There was a moment when a speaker showed us an ER video of nurses conducting CPR on a child but the kid died anyway. I almost started to bawl because I was still sensitive and it reminded me of my grandmother just two days earlier. The speaker looked at all of our faces and told us that this was what we would have to see on a daily basis and if we can't do it, we shouldn't be nurses. I told my friend later about the incident and then he asked me, "Well, are you? Are you ready for this?" I wanted to answer yes of course because I've always been able to emotionally detach myself from situations to the point where my sister has called me cold hearted but after the incident with my grandmother I realized maybe I'm weaker than I thought I was. I also couldn't shake off the feeling that her death was someone's fault from the rehab center she had been staying at because it was such a 180 change that even the nurses were shocked. My dad mentioned how her nurse would carry so many pills everyday when she did rounds that he wondered if she would confuse them. This hit me with the reality as well how much responsibility lies on the nurse's shoulders and how one tiny mistake could take someone's life. I was already aware of this bit but it just became much more real. So the question if I'm ready to be a nurse that I used to know how to answer, I no longer know how to. I'm scared I'll end up making my parents pay all this money and only end up quitting halfway. But then there's the "what if", like what if I could end up being a great nurse and loving it? But when what if I hate it and everything goes down the drain, the years, the sacrifice, the money? I only decided to be a nurse on the fly senior year of high school when I was forced to choose a major because I felt I was smart enough for it and I wanted to have a meaningful job that helped other people. I thought it was the perfect fit and I can't think of anything else I would like to be at this point. But I'm having a lot of doubts. The question is, do I back out or do I push through? Sorry for all the paragraphs, I have a bad habit of making my posts big haha :)

FIU FALL 2017 generic bsn
Mine did too. I ended up calling complio a few days ago and they led me to calling Daon. Daon told me to give them 4-6 business days, even though it had basically already been 6 business days. But then I got a follow up call the next day from Complio that they resolved the issue for me. Now when I log in to Complio it says the fingerprinting has been completed with a green check mark but then when I take off the pop up and look at the regular page it's still an X. Lol idk I may have to call again for that. I also need to call for my employment check because that's taking forever as well. Call Complio and they'll help you out! Their number: 1-800-200-0853

@nursingrules3 I think you should send it also to the general office because you also must be accepted into fiu itself not just the nursing college. The good thing is that for fiu you can just send that one electronically, it isn't required to submit the physical version of the transcript.

@itsmemariooo isn't the transfer deposit due by August 14? @blueberries17 yeah I dropped by today, hopefully no more problems arise.

For those who are also transferring from MDC on this forum, is anybody else having issues with receiving their final transcripts? :/
-
FIU FALL 2017 generic bsn
@nursingrules3 hello! As transfers we have to send 2 final transcripts, one to FIU which can be electronic or physical copy. And then one also to the nursing college which has to be a physical copy, if you're mailing the physical copy to the nursing college, send it to: 11200 SW 8th Street, AHC-3 Room 121, Miami, FL 33199, Attn: Christian Rodriguez. Or you could drop the physical copy for the nursing college yourself at AHC-3 121.

Your stats are good, there's still a lot of time left for you to receive your email! They've only just started sending them out. Maybe they're doing it in order of last name or in the order the applications were received.

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS! :) I haven't received anything either ohhhpaulo, maybe they're doing the FIU students first and then the transfers like cheuk.chan001 said.

Yes! Hopefully we all get in lol. Yea Nova is bit expensive, this is why FIU is so ideal because it is cheap and for me it is close to my home lol. The application process is tedious, hopefully we won't have to go through it again. But even if we don't it won't be the end of the world! There's always another way. I just wish we could know the verdict already though, the anticipation is seriously killing me. I've been checking my email every single day since last Monday. And now it seems we may be stuck waiting even longer.

I didn't apply anywhere else, I wanted to go to UCF so bad but I couldn't apply because I needed to have a certain amount of prereq's done before applying. If I don't get in FIU this round I'm planning on working on my community hours and getting some experience in a hospital setting so I have more to offer than just my GPA while I wait for the next cycle. Then I'll apply next cycle except not just to FIU, I'll go for UCF, USF, FSU and UF (even though this one is quite the long shot, I hear they only accept about 5 transfer students). Won't put my eggs all in one basket again! Nova's a good school! I hope you get a response soon! It's still early, they may not have started sending out letters yet.

Oh yeah they might be waiting for final transcripts from transfer students. I just looked at my college's transcript page and it says any final transcripts we've ordered will be going out on Monday May 8th, maybe it's the same for other colleges as well. Perhaps this week could be the week.

Advice for Microbiology!?
I just finished my micro class this spring term with an A. My biggest advice is basically the same advice for every class- study and do not procrastinate! Micro isn't easy and you need to spend your time studying and making notes. Stay on top of your grade and don't let yourself slack off. Lab I found you could just study the day of or the day before and you will be fine. Just make sure you pay attention on how to conduct the tests in class so you're ready for your unknown exams (in which you must identify an unknown bacteria) and do the best you can on whatever extra assignments/quizzes you have, always aim for that A every time. Lecture is a whole other beast, though. I had to study by reading every day so I'd read all the chapters. Then again, my professor wasn't very good on telling us what would be on the test (he was a very disorganized man ugh) so we were just kind of left in the air about that and had to memorize as much of all the chapters as possible. Hopefully your's won't be like that, though. Flashcards help a ton with studying, too. Everything is easier when you break it up into little pieces. Make a study schedule for the chapters so that you go over a little bit every day up to the day before the test. Make sure to review from the previous days every now and then so you don't forget it. Maybe even make yourself a little study guide along the way. Then the day before the test, review all of the material! Since you already studied it all, it would just be a refresher. You'll do great as long as you stay on top things and don't put off studying! If there's any extra credit opportunity do them all, and always do your best on every homework assignment (if you get any). You never know if that 1 point could be the difference between a B and an A or even a C and a B. Another thing, study groups! Make friends in your class! Get together and study! But only after YOU have already studied. You won't learn anything in a study group if you don't already know anything yourself, you'll only end up wasting time. After you've studied, then set up a group and exchange what you know with each other. This is really helpful because someone will always know something you don't. You could also quiz each other before the test to reaffirm what you know. Good luck you'll be fine!

best TEAS study guide/method?
Hello, my first attempt: Overall- 89 Reading- 91.5 Math- 93.8 Science- 87.2 and English- 79.2 .. I literally only used the study manual provided by the ATI website. I read that thing from cover to cover and completed all the little tests and quizzes inside of it. Just make sure you dedicate a good amount of time to each individual section, but with the main focus being on A&P (the great majority of the test will be A&P, I barely got any other sort of science question- maybe some chemistry). I studied too hard for the other sections and ended up falling short on the last section, English and Language with a 79%, because I literally just glanced at it the night before. So try to distribute your time. Also, the manual does not cover everything you will see on the test for A&P, there were some questions that I was thankful I had at least taken the A&P 1 course so I could answer them. So, you may want to look into studying a little more thoroughly that section with maybe some of your textbooks to refresh your memory. I'd suggest studying about three weeks before the test so you have time to go over all the sections w/o over studying and make sure you study the most the last week so the info is fresh. Then take the first practice test, review what you are weak on from the results, focus on your weaknesses, take the second practice test a few days before the actual test, and review over the sections some more. Don't freak out if you don't like the scores you get on the practice tests, I think they make the practice tests harder than the actual exam. I got an 80% on my practice. This was my initial study plan too, but I ended up procrastinating and only studying for a week and a half, something I deeply regret because I could have done better had I followed through. I hope this helped! Good luck!

Teas exam please help fellows
Hello! For reference I got an 89%, let me tell you how I studied. I 100% recommend purchasing the TEAS ATI 6 study guide from their website and also the two practice tests that come with it in a bundle sort of thing. Best way to study for the TEAS is with that study guide, do not delve deeper for the exam on the math, grammar, and reading portions. Only study for those what is inside of the study guide. For anatomy though I do recommend going a little deeper especially for the systems and maybe a brief review of chemistry? You may very well be over studying, something that I actively tried to avoid because I know of my tendency to do that. Don't cram too much info you may not need in your head and don't overthink the questions and burn yourself out. Read the study guide from cover to cover and complete the little quizzes at the end of each topic and the tests at the end of each section to test yourself and also as practice problems for the exam. Then take the first online practice exam from the bundle and see what you still lack in. Focus on those and review those bits as much as you can, then take the second online practice exam about a day or two before the real exam so you're in the zone for the exam. Review over what you did worst in again and do your best to get a good night's sleep before the exam. You're just like me with the constantly thinking about things at night lol. Relax! You'll do fine. You're just totally psyching yourself out. Don't stress so much because it could also be something that is affecting you when you are taking the exam. Try to drink some tea and chill, just think of it as any other test. You'll get more comfortable with it after taking the practice exams, as well. Good luck :)

I have taken the TEAS 4 times
Well first you have to look at what you are doing badly in! Do you purchase the online exams from the ATI website? I found them to be a good investment! They show you where you are having difficulty specifically. Review those sections as much as you can, if it's math look up a bunch of problems online and complete them. If it is reading, you have to learn to be more careful when you read while also being fast enough to go against the clock. I truly found the ATI 6 study guide to be the BEST study guide out there because they show you exactly how the TEAS questions are worded. In fact, that is the only thing I studied with and I got an 89% my first time. I read the entire manual from cover to cover. Very effective for the math, reading, and grammar sections of the TEAS because you'll know what they're looking for...make sure to do the tests at the end of every section as well for practice and look over anything you got wrong. For anatomy I would say it is a bit lacking, definitively study what is in the manual for it, but also maybe go a little more in depth with your old anatomy textbooks with the different systems. In terms of how to study, it is always practicing and reviewing over and over again until you're sick of seeing it. Someone mentioned flashcards, those are pretty good especially for the systems of the body. Put the flashcards down on a table and do not flip them over until you can list out loud everything you wrote on the other side. Using the tests in the ATI 6 book also help A LOT, I'd suggest doing those a little closer to the date you're going to take the test so that it is pretty fresh in your mind and then briefly reviewing them the day before. About two days or so before the actual exam, I'd recommend doing the second practice exam (since the bundle on the website comes with two) so that you get in the zone and you know what you still have left to work on and review those bits the exam says you're still struggling with. Don't lose hope, you can totally do it.

Thanks! I hope it's enough! I do not have much community service hours so that is already some points off. I'm transferring from Miami Dade! You're a transfer too? And yeah I've read some of the forums too, they should definitely come out in May or at the latest the first week of June.
