Hi, I am a first time traveler also and accepted a position there for December. It seems like a nice enough town. I tried the big cities but didn't have any luck. Let me know if you decide to take it.
  2. My friend told me that you have to practice in the United States within a year of writing the NCLEX exam or it will be considered void. Is this true? I know the visascreen certificate expires in 5 years. Thanks.
  3. Thank you for the replies. I don't know if this makes a difference, but it's a private medical centre, not a county hospital. I'm going to ask to speak to the manager directly.
  4. I have received a job offer without an interview. I was kind of shocked. My recruiter could not tell me much about the unit, so she forwarded my questions to them. This is my first travel assignment so I am kind of cautious. Has anyone ever accepted an offer this way?

How much is it to ship your car? Also, I inquired about changing recruiters within the agency, but the recruitment manager I spoke with was hesitant. I don't see why not since I am still in the search phase. I think they have offices in San Diego and Ohio.

The $39 and $33 from OA are blended rates. Ogrady Peyton told me they don't do a blended rate for that facility and the rate is 31.50 for the whole 12 hours, which seems low to me. I am thinking it might be better to take the $39 and find my own transportation.

I thought the rate they quoted me was pretty good. She said $39/hr without the rental car and $33 with the rental car. I am still trying to decide if I should take my car down. OP told me 31.50 for the same facility.

I am a Pediatric nurse and first time traveler looking to work with OnAssignment for a placement in Northern CA. I like that they have the rental car option and that their housing is fully furnished with linens, kitchenware, etc. so all I need to bring are my clothes. The rate they quoted me is much better than what O'Grady Peyton offered me for the same facility. Please share your experiences with OnAssignment and if you recommend a specific recruiter, please PM me. Thank you.
  9. good points. It doesn't hurt to have PALS. I just don't want to be floated to PICU or stepdown just because I happened to have PALS. I hear travellers are first to get floated. Thanks.
  10. Is PALS required for all Peds travel nurses? I'm a med-surg Peds nurse and I don't need PALS for my current job and I work at a children's hospital. I thought PALS was only for ICU, ER nurses. The recruiter I'm talking to says it is, even for non-critical care nurses because it's supposedly required by the facilities and by JCAHO. (Not sure what that is.) PALS would be good to have anyway, but I have to pay for it since the travel agency said they won't pay for it. Should I take it now or try to find a travel assignment without it? Thanks.
  11. Thank you. There is no form for reporting NCLEX results in the visa screen handbook that I can find. Am I supposed to submit the license verification form to the state BON? (Minnesota, in my case.) (If so, I assume I need to wait for the actual paper letter indicating I passed. I just have quick results so far.) This is probably an obvious question but do state BON automatically issue your license once you have passed the NCLEX? Thanks.
  12. I am a Canadian RN. I wrote the NCLEX last week and passed according to quickresults. My VISA screen process is already under way for the VISA screen certificate. All they need is my passing NCLEX result. Will the state board of nursing automatically submit my result to CGFNS or do I need to request it?
  13. The Kaplan book states that "Notify Physician" should never be chosen as the answer as they don't want to know what the doctor would do, they want to know what the nurse would do. The Saunders book has "Notify Physician" as legitimate answers for some emergent situations. Which is right?
  14. How long do you typically wait after a nursing job interview? I graduated in 2004 and worked in adult med-surg. but I've been feeling like I needed to move on. I decided after much soul searching that I really want to be in pediatrics. I interviewed last week at children's hospital, for a position that I really want. I don't know how I'll take it if I don't get the job. I'm just really anxious waiting to hear from them. Each day feels like a week.
  15. I was so busy yesterday that I forgot to take my coffee break. I can't believe it. Most of the time I take my breaks no matter how busy it gets, but I was so busy that I forgot all about it. It did not help that my partner LPN was rather laid back, shall we say. I had 2 admissions around the same time, with one getting blood. That is the first time it has happened to me. It's different when you're busy and you decide not to go on your break, or delay your break. But I was so distracted, it did not even occur to me to go.
