  1. I am new to oncology and am hoping to get info from nurses that do sterile cap changes with CHG swabs and TB syringes (to plug the caps during cleaning). I am still working for the same institution, but the practices from inpatient med surg to outpatient onc are very different. The policy does not include the specifics of how to properly maintain sterility and disinfect caps, and our educator left right around the time that I came on, which is why I am posting. We have all onc patients including BMT so I understand how important it is to stay sterile. I am finding that I am changing my sterile gloves several times during dressing change/cap changes, and mostly due to the the cap change steps. Any tips, videos or info is appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  2. I sent you a PM!
  3. I am wondering the same thing! It sounds like you can pick your brand, but I would love to get info about embroidery! The HR contact just gave me the contact info to do it through the gift shop and the gift shop lady was not very helpful.
  4. Hey people that accepted positions for July Residency! Do you know what to do about buying scrubs? I know they need to be navy and embroidered with UTSW logo, but can you buy your own and get them embroidered or do you have to buy them from UTSW? I can't find any info about it online and am coming from out of state.
  5. No they told me they don't require a commitment one during my interview. And we (at least I) haven't gotten one that is why I ask. They said in 2-3 weeks and today is 3 weeks for me, so I just wanted to check if anyone has gotten that onboarding info yet!
  6. The employment contract with compensation, benefits, etc if you accepted a position via email
  7. Has anyone signed their contract yet?
  8. That is really good info to know. I have shadowed both and what I heard from multiple CRNAs is how much they loved their autonomy and that the majority of their cases were very routine and low stress (sounds amazing for down the road--I would love to work hard with my brain eventually, and not my body like I do on the floor now). The NPs on the other hand seemed to be torn in multiple directions in the hospitals, and in the clinics they could not keep up with appointments. I will definitely keep shadowing and gaining insight from both perspectives. Last question for you: I have heard that most workplaces don't reimburse any tuition for CRNA school yet. Have you found this to be true? I would think that if you committed to working for them for x amount of years afterwards that they would help you out!
  9. Thanks a bunch! This is very helpful. I am graduating with my BSN in May and moving to TX this summer. I'm really thinking about pursuing CRNA school or DNP for NP. I am mostly concerned about how to support myself while in school since it sounds like I wouldn't be able to earn much (if anything) for 2-3 years. I guess this is why most people wait several years until they are on their feet before they start a program. Thanks again!
  10. Are you able to work a low FTE while doing school? Are most programs in person or are some totally online? Are your clinical sites set up for you or do you have to find your own sites? How difficult/easy is it to find the first job out of school? Thank you SO much!
  11. Medical is that (plus differentials)
  12. Hey there! I know this is an old thread but I just accepted a position at UTSW with their adult medical residency track. How are you liking it so far? Any tips? Thank you!!
  13. Anyone working at UTSW from this old thread?! I accepted a job for their Adult Acute Medical Residency track for July 2017 and am wondering if there is anyone that can answer a few questions and tell me about their experience. Thanks!
  14. When I accepted on Wednesday, they said 2-3 weeks to get the official contract and paperwork so I wouldn't give up hope yet! They may continue sending out offers in those couple weeks depending on how many people accept the offers
  15. Weird because they emailed asking which units I wanted late Friday... oh well!
  16. I haven't heard anything which unit are you interviewing with? How much notice did they give you? I would have to fly in so I need some time
  17. I'm going to be honest, I don't know much about this. What I do know though is that on the applications that I have submitted for jobs, there is a comment area that you can explain the situation related to anything on your background check. And like the other person stated, you are the victim here (not the perpetrator). Please don't let the board of nursing stop you from getting help and keeping yourself safe. Their whole point is to protect the public. If I were you, I would seek help from someone like an advisor at school. Maybe you can go to a school of nursing advisor that understands more about how the board of nursing handles situations like this. I bet they will be very receptive and point you in the right direction. Even though you are not yet a nursing student, I think they should have pre-nursing advisors to help.
  18. Still nothing? I applied and emailed my preferred units, but nothing since then.
  19. Do you guys know what happens if you end up not passing the nclex the first time? I know some places allow you to retake it while you are doing the classroom part of residency. Or is it totally contingent on passing?
  20. Just an update, I received an offer for Adult Medical. Anyone else hear yet?! I am sure it is different for each track but it sounds like emails are going out now!
  21. Did CC interview sooner? Maybe that's why and could also by why we didn't get emails? So weird
  22. I did not get an email! The residency coordinator really stressed that this week is the earliest it would be and that it very well could be later so let's not freak out yet! :)
  23. Anything?! Dying to know over here haha
  24. I can't wait either! They told me week of 2/13 is the earliest we'd find out but to not freak out if it takes longer
  25. Thank you!
