I know exactly what you're talking about. I was confused too with this exact setup. The book does have errors, and if your cover is Red (earlier book release) than ATI has created an corrected addendum for your book. The way I look at it is that DNA is read in the 5' to 3' direction. The page before does say "DNA double-helix are "read" by the cell in the 3' to 5' direction. I consider this contradictory to their figure on the next page. What you should know is that nucleotides are added on the 3' Carbon directional to the 5' carbon; that is when Replication & Translation is taking place. Initially, the 5' to 3' is the BASE that is being read, and how it's replicated/translate is the 3' to 5' end. Whether ATI knows of the contradictory mistake is uncertain. Hope this helps!
