I'm about done with my prerequisites and I've found out my husband may be tranferred for 3 years to Ventura county. Does anyone know what the waitlist usually is at these two schools? Or do you know of any other schools in that area that may have a lesser wait? I'm really hopeful to be able to do the ADN program during our 3 years in California. Thanks for any advice you may have!

Thanks guys for you supoortive posts! I think I just needed a boost of reassurance. This is a big decision for me but I think I'm going to go ahead and sign the final paperwork and pay my deposit next week. I'm just going to go for it and worry about the other hurdles later. Thanks again!

I know-that is completely true. That's why I'm getting cold feet; hence the original post. I wouldn't blame employers for not working around my crazy life! I'm just concerned that I'll put the time, money and effort in to school and I won't be able to make it work. It's not that I don't want to but I really don't have any family around to help out and I live in an area where childcare is pretty outrageus. I'm not giving up-just exploring my options right now and trying to be realisitic. What's meant to be will be (or so they say!).

It's not a shallow reason and I am dedicated to being a nurse. I've already got 10 years in the medical field. However my husband is in the US Military and is sometimes gone months at a time. I have to worry about childcare on the weekends. On top of that, my family is more important than my career. When my child doens't get to see his father for months at a time I think it is important that he has a parent around on weekends. You have to be open-minded to the fact that everyone has different life sitiuations and the schedule might not work out. IMO that was a pretty "shallow" response. While nursing might not fit into my life I'm still planning to pursue the education in a few years when my son is older.

Just when I've about been accepted in to LPN school I'm getting cold feet. I've starting researching jobs and the reality has dawned on me that as a nurse I'll probably always work a good deal of weekends. This concerns me because that is my only family time to speak of. I was wondering what the "real life" is lactually like and if my fears are unfounded. I'm scared I've made the wrong career choice. I'm probably being a big chicken!

Because the wait for the ADN programs in my area are very long I'd made the decision to go with an LPN program first and then do the transitional to RN later. But after visiting all the LPN schools in my area I've found out that they either have about a 2 year wait or aren't even taking applicants right now! They do have Medical Assisting and Surgical Tech programs open right away. Would either of these to certifications help me in any way towards a future nursing degree? My goal is that I really want to start working in the medical field and earning some $ ASAP, and then working at my own pace towards the RN. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I really want to take an ADN program but it is several years waiting list and very competitive in my area. However the LPN program has openings for August and it is only 12 months. There's not many LPN openings here but I've seen a lot of LPN to ADN programs with no wait-even online courses. Is this a good idea? Anyone else have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!

I used to work at a medical facility and we had a nursing student doing clinicals that was on a scholarship. The scholarship payed for her schooling and even helpd a little with living expenses but she had to sign a contract that when she graduated she would work in a rural area or a governemnt facility like an Indian Reservation or prison for 4 years (I think). Has anyone ever heard of this or no where I could get more information? Thans

Does anyone know if this is possible? I found out about a good vocational school that has a LPN program I can start fairly soon. But it is full-time and I will have to cut my work hours down to part-time. I'm going to need a little additional money to help with living expenses or I won't be able to do this. I'd love to hear any advice anyone may have-I really want to do this!

My ultimate goal is to be a RN but with the waitlist for schools being so long I'm seriously considering going to atech. school to become a LPN fist. Anyone in Broward know how the job market and starting salary is for new graduate LPN's? Thanks

Hello! I live in Broward County, FL and the wait to get into a nursing program is long I decided to go the LPN route first. I was hoping to go to a Broward County Vocational School but I saw on the website that they don't secure student loans. I applied for FAFSA and my EFC is so high I'm basically on my own. I was going to apply for a loan to cover my tuition, books, uniforms and help with living expenses a little since I'll have to cut back to part-time. Does anyone know if this is possible since they don't secure student loans? What exactly does this mean?

I've made the decision and I'm ready to do this and the waitlists were killing me because I'm kind of on a time constraint; on top of the fact that I've callled and called and never been able to get through to anyone and noone's returned my messages! How did your sister feel about the school and what kind of job did she get? Thanks again for being so helpful...now it's a matter of geting some student loans.:uhoh21:

Anyone have any experience with this school. I'm trying to get information about there LPN program. Before I take time off work to go there (because it's a good ways from me) I wanted to know if they had a waitlist or required taking a health core program first. Hello-I am seriously considering enrolling in a LPN program at a local vocation college. Now I just need to figure out my work schedule is going to be. The school is Mon-Thurs. from 2pm-10pm. How many hours of study per day does the average person need? Thanks in advance for any info. you may have!

They offer an LPN program and it's really cheap. But I've never heard anything about them and want to make sure it's reputable. (I've only lived here 1 year) Thanks!

I've made a decision to go to nursing school and all of the programs here have a very long wait. I haven't heard to much about Nova though. I mainly wanted to know if there was much of a wait and how the school was. Thanks if anybody has any info. for me!

I've just made the decision to go to nursing school. I live in South Florida (broward) and the wait is very long for the RN programs. Is it beneficial to become a LPN first and then do a LPN to RN transition program?
