california license by endorsement
My state has a Live Scan location. Does this mean I am able to do that from here? Also, for transcripts: I took multiple pre-reqs at many different community colleges. Do I have to get a transcript from each one? Some of these schools (and my actual nursing school) only allow the transcript to be requested online through the National Clearinghouse website. There is no mail-in request possible so how will I do this since they require their form to be used? I tried calling and emailing but nobody answered...

Job hunting...
Thank you! offlabel, do you have any ideas as to how to find the name/contact info of the department chief or chief CRNA without calling and asking? Or is calling and asking the most appropriate way?

Job hunting...
Hi all, I am seeking employment as a new graduate CRNA - will be graduating in December and have been told that I should start looking about 5 months out. I have completed a couple applications online but I believe that as soon as I click the "no" box to the question "Are you a graduate of an accredited CRNA program?" and the "Are you licensed as a CRNA?" I am automatically filtered out, even if the job description states that no experience is necessary. I have received a couple automated emails directly after submitting my application that say I "do not meet minimum requirements." I have tried contacting HR for these hospitals - one I was able to get in touch with but they told me it is too soon to apply because they are looking to fill this position immediately. However, another position that I am extremely interested in does not have any HR contact information. When I called that hospital operator and asked for HR, the line goes straight to the HR voicemail, which states that they do not provide job application status over the phone. Does anybody have any advice as to how to approach this situation- where I believe my application is automatically filtered out and I will not be able to apply until after I can answer "yes" to the questions I stated above? How can I get into contact with the hiring manager or chief CRNA? As I said, absolutely no information is posted online. (Some hospitals have nurse recruiter info online or even the email of the Chief CRNA but not this one). I was hoping to secure a job prior to graduation, even if I still need to wait a few months. Thanks in advance for any advice! Edit: P.S. - Mods if you can please not send this to the Student forum I would really appreciate it. I am looking for advice from CRNAs who have been in the position of actively job hunting or hiring CRNAs. Thank you.

Premed to CRNA
I think if your goal is MD, you won't be happy doing something else. Just my opinion. Many medical residents have families. If that is what you want then have a family. The problem is, 1-1.5 years of accelerated BSN + 1-2 years of ICU nursing + 2-3 years CRNA school depending on the length of your program? At best you're looking at 4 years and at worst/more realistically, 6.5. It would take 7-8 years to become an MDA (4 years med school plus 3 years residency, 4 if you do an intern year). That is really not that much difference in the grand scheme of life, you would meet your ultimate goal, and during the last 3-4 years you would be making at least a modest income as a resident. Also, many CRNAs come away with $150-200K in loans, and make significantly less than an MDA. Look at tuition at some schools. The two schools closest to me would have cost near $100K just for tuition- then there is living expenses on top of that. I had to relocate very far from home to attend a more affordable school. CRNA schools are very competitive, yes. I would not recommend AA due to the practice restrictions. You would never be able to function independently, always having to answer to an MDA- especially because you originally desired to BE an MDA, that could get really old. Anyways, just some things to think about, from a current student CRNA. A quote that kept me motivated during my ICU nursing time: "don't give up your goals because of the time it will take to accomplish them- the time will pass anyway." Applies here, I believe, as well.

CRNA Midwestern application 2016
Agree completely with PresG. And by the way, OP, levophed is mixed alpha & beta. Ever stop to think that maybe the problem is you and not an entire program or profession?

meeting with program director
No jeans! Dress pants and blouse or a professional dress, with flat shoes. I did meet with the program director prior to applying to my program and wore a professional dress with wedges. I wished I would have worn flats, as he felt badly giving me a tour around the school "in those shoes." It it is always, always better to be overdressed than under dressed!

Private loans?
I have heard that some schools will make exceptions for the Cost of Attendance they will approve. Mine won't. But talk to the financial aid officer. You will have to show proof of your monthly expenses to prove your cost of attendance is more than they determined, and they may approve it. I think that is how you hear of people supporting families on student loans alone. However, make it work. Don't put off school. Think about the difference in earning potential for every year you wait- it's more than worth it, even if you are stretched thin.
